GIVING DAY 2023
In hindsight, it really seems like TOC let his emotions get in the way and wanted to stick it to OCM by hiring a "name" coach, instead of going out and finding someone who would be a good fit.

Even without Luke, we had a stacked roster. And a halfway competent coach probably could have won the CAA that year.
Andre Cornelius's suspension was the big blow IMO. Losing Luke took that team down from Top 25 good to still being the class of the CAA. But then without Andre, we blew all our big OOC opportunities. We should have been an at-large team even if Hewitt screwed up in the CAAT (which he did)

Coulda, woulda, shoulda....but that sure had the potential of being a great team.

Pearson, Hancock, Cornelius and Morrison all returning as Seniors, Sherrod Wright taking over for Cam Long and Vertrail Vaughns coming off the bench.

Would have loved to see what L would have done with Johnny Williams too.

This offseason is going incredibly well for Mason. Duquesne and UMass are dumpster fires, GW is losing two players they didn't think they would, and our three bench players just decided to transfer out, leaving us room to grab the big that will put us in contention. The only maybe negative has been vcu picking up a better coach but even on that front they may lose some recruits.

Don't forget having the conference tournament in Washington, D.C. next year.

Also maybe I'm wrong, but to me it feels like they have a lack of a rivalry with anyone and that probably doesn't help. I guess in the ACC they B.C. but obviously the local VA schools were rivals and didn't care about Maryland. I think the Big 10 has been trying to make Maryland vs. Rutgers a thing, although that's going about as well as you would think.

Exactly, and they are too stupid/afraid/whatever to play GW, Gtown or us. While there are some fans of B10 teams in the area, it's nothing compared to the ACC fans. This is literally the heart of ACC territory (or at least close to NC) and MD was like, nah, let's go join a mid west conference.

I mean I kind of see where they were coming from. The football team was never really gonna do anything anyone so might as well move to a conference that doesn't have Duke and UNC challenging their basketball team. But I think with all the UA money coming in that may have been a mistake. Their football team could compete with most of the ACC teams aside from Clemson and FSU.

They were sort of financially forced to take the Big 10 offer. Their stadium expansion really put them in a bind and sports were on the chopping block until the Big 10's TV contract came to the rescue.

This.... the Post had a lot of stories about the financial pressures the UM was under and the impact on sports. They had no choice.

Now they are the odd piece in that conference and it doesn't serve their football or basketball programs well.

Whoa. Huge loss. Am I alone on the mixed feelings? Good for the conference is good for us, so you want them to reload. You also want to see top teams struggle so we can take their place. But getting to the top of a weakened league is certainly not as good as getting to the top of a strong league. Plus, why do other people get to reload but we get Paul Hewitt? To think I used to like TOC.

I used to be on team what's good for the conference is good for Mason. But it's been so long since Mason went dancing, I'm happy to see the turmoil throughout the a10. Mason is on the rise, while other teams have a lot to figure out. November can't come soon enough.

Also the best thing for Mason is to get to a meaningful post season. So until Mason goes dancing I'm on team screw everyone else

It's a good thing for us.

It would be good to organically grow to the top of the pile, but little things like this help as well.

The only mistake is assuming a new coach means the program has a problem.

Duquesne and UMASS have program problems beyond the coach. Dayton doesn't.

Like any hire...it's a crap shoot.

Concur - its just seems to be an event that aligns in our interest.
