you tell me about Bryson Johnson's first and then I have no problem.... I mean you said he wanted to be a front office guy and have probably never met Tyler Jorns in your life... so go ahead sir

I didn’t say that’s what he wanted to be. I said that’s what he most likely will be (which, to be fair, is just as dumb).

Maybe he’ll become a coach. But unless you know him personally and understand how well he thinks the game and can teach it, I don’t think his experience screams out to be hired as an assistant.

I actually said why I thought Bryson Johnson would be a good recruiter: he’s young, he looks like the players he’ll be most likely recruiting so he might be able to connect with them, he’s been in their position.

I have no idea how good of a scout he is. But he’s obviously smart, has been a leader both on and off the court and I think he’d do a fine job.

I’m just curious why you are anti-Bryson and pro-Jorns. What do you know about both of them that makes you so high on one and not the other?

I’m not personally connected to anyone in the AD. I haven’t lived in the area since 2008.

Just hazarding a guess, but Bryson is one of Paulsen’s guys, which to Sleeper means he sucks by osmosis.

That’s my guess too. But I am hoping for a cogent reasoning beyond that.
eh not quite but partially.... I look at the talent and teams both have been around.... Tyler got to spend time with Quin Snyder of the Utah Jazz.... he was an incredible college coach, overseas coach and now NBA coach.... learning from someone as elite as that is invaluable. He was basically a paid videography that broke down film which would help him a lot with scouting talent as well as assistant coach duties... Also just take a look at them on the bench if you would like to know another reason of why I think one>other... Both/one will probably follow a leaving assistant so this is probably moot. But I know for damn sure Paulsen needs to sign someone who can recruit worth a damn...

I think we can all agree that it would be nice to hear some news so we can all stop guessing.
This may be the most frustrating aspect of the Paulsen era, the almost complete lack information that comes out of the program, whether it is official or leaks.

It is also impressive how few information leaks there seem to be.

I will start worrying when Fischer and Kelly have a staff and we don't.

Your definition of an incredible college coach: "Then he recruited a troubled player named Ricky Clemons, whom Snyder kept believing in even after Clemons choked his girlfriend and kept on scholarship after he was charged with domestic assault. Clemons later crashed an all-terrain vehicle at the home of the university president, went to jail for violating his probation and was the subject of an NCAA investigation that unspooled Snyder’s program and, following jailhouse interviews with the FBI and accusations that Clemons received improper benefits, led to the coach’s resignation."

Not a hiring or firing, but vcu extended Rhoades’ deal until 2025 and bumped his base from $1.2M to $1.5M — it jumps to $1.6M in 2020 and 1.7M in 2021.

As much as I hate them, their administration and fan base’s commitment to being good at basketball is unquestioned. Wish we could say the same about Mason.

What would Mason have done if DP in his second year had won the A10 regular season and was an at large?

vcu knows Rhoades very well due to his past working under Smart. He is recruiting at a strong level and winning the conference. With all the criminal shit storm surrounding the blue bloods, vcu is smart to pay a good man and coach.

"Just three days after resigning under pressure at Villanova, Lappas took on the task of succeeding Bruiser Flint in Amherst -- he beat out Fran McCaffery (then at UNC Greensboro) and Jim Larranaga (then at George Mason) for the job. But Lappas was never a fit in Amherst -- the 16-12 record in 2004-05 was the high-water mark of his tenure, and home attendance averaged just 3,869 per game in his final year there."
