I didnt realize 16 sports were required by the NCAA to have 1-A football. I thought it was much more than that.

Move Fordham out of the A10, bring ODU in, move football back to the CAA.

Scholarships, travel, room and board, equipment, staffs, medical expenses all add up quick.

I'd say they've got a ways to go to compare themselves to any of those other programs.

Not sure how this impacts Title IX. Does this make them compliant or do they have to make other adjustments? With men's soccer, they were at 17 sports, one over the min to offer I-A football.

I don't think Title IX cares if a school is over-compliant on scholarships. Men's soccer is only 9.9 scholarships anyway.

Sure, Rutgers is going to give up all that TV $$$ from the Big Ten Network and others and drop down to the AAC.....The author should be smarter than that.
Rutgers is probably more competitive in the AAC but college sports isnt about that anymore, its about $$$$. If the Big Ten kicks Rutgers out, thats one thing, but they aren't leaving by choice.

I could be biased AF, but Rutgers is now doing everything it can to compete in the Big Ten in both football and basketball. They hired the right football coach, added infrastructure and given Schiano whatever he wants. In addition, theyve added a lot for basketball (brand new facility that is fantastic) and have a great coach in Pikiell.

Pikiell is a lot like Paulsen in that hes defense minded and taken programs in the dumps and turned them around. The big difference is that Pikiell was on the verge of the NCAAs this year. He has been a little more aggressive with taking in transfers/grad transfers and successful with it.

If anything Rutgers is improving just about everywhere to meet and exceed everyone else in the Big Ten. They have really upped their game in the last 18 months IMO. It also matters they have the private money that alumni can throw at sports and are willing to throw at sports but thats besides the point.

Wait, Paulsen has turned programs around that were in the dump? I dunno about bucknell, but we are still in, at the least, the driveway of the dump, as opposed to dead center as of 5 yrs ago.

That and now with everything they are doing to compete, theyd have no reason to boot them. It would be one thing if they couldn't keep up or weren't trying.
