As a Penn State alum, I appreciate the Bucknell men's basketball program. But, I don't understand why Coach Paulsen's success at Bucknell would necessarily translate to a good fit at Penn State.

Trivia question: Name the former Mason assistant who was the head coach at Penn State?

LOL. There are people on these boards having legitimate discussions about Paulsen's ability to coach and recruit at the A-10 level, but some of you think that he could do it at the P5 level?? Even the worst P5 schools have donors that care about results. This discussion is laughable, Dave has no shot of leaving us for a P-5 until he at least gets us to the dance.

I agree with your final point, but I'd argue that random doofuses on message boards (and I'm including myself here) having random doofus debates with their random doofus opinions doesn't mean much. It just means that there are people like DJ3 out there, and they have internet access.

GIVING DAY 2023
I guess Darrell Green is still on payroll. The George Mason Athletics Facebook page just posted this;

“Congrats to Associate AD Darrell Green on being named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team, announced tonight on NFL Network!

The Team is a roster of 100 players and 10 coaches named “The Greatest” at their respective positions.”

Smart move by vcu to partner with the minor league baseball team for a new baseball facility:

Some of you more tenured posters know I am all for schools like vcu, Mason, etc to partner on facility projects like this. I know we talked to DC United about their minor league complex that eventually went to Loudoun County. There have been multiple discussions over the years with summer league baseball teams; not sure if the P-Nats ever approached the school before moving further down I-95. I don't think the GoGo/Mystics facility was ever not going to be in DC.

My alma mater has an on-campus baseball stadium that it shares with the State College Spikes - https://gopsusports.com/sports/2018/8/8/facilities-lubrano-park-html.aspx.

Yeah its definitely a yikes to say the least - that said I know for giving day I was told they have “aggressive” goals for men’s basketball (universal giving, not sure what that means), general giving, and the men’s baseball scoreboard project.

Concerning you have less than 700 donors too.

Since this came from the PC email, I assume it is PC donations in general, not just MBB?

would it count season ticket “donations”? If so, that means we have less than 700 season ticket holders.

Usually theres about 1100-1200 I think, so that means there was a LOT of attrition. I think its members of the Patriot Club who may or may not be season ticket holders.

Not good, but when your prime product isn’t doing so hot, its hard to get people to buy in.

It’s a high goal for us. Historically we have only broken a million dollars in donations a few times. We've only topped $1.4 million in contributions once (2017 oddly). Would love for us to get up to URI's levels of giving (about $1.6 million in bad years, $2.0-$2.4 million in good years), but we are a long ways to go from where we are to that.

Last giving day was pretty depressing from a men's basketball perspective. If they have ambitious goals (Phase II of basketball facilities?) I haven't seen any hype around the project and we're about three weeks out. Could be similar to last year where wrestling and volleyball and cheerleading get the most donations again.
