GIVING DAY 2023

Good to see last year's data as we now know outcomes

1) How many of those players transferred to better basketball schools?
2) How many transferred to lower basketball schools?
3) How many lost college scholarships and are now in college and playing intramurals and paying for college via regular financial aid.
4) How many are no longer in college?

This is part of the data needed so that each play can make an informed decision as to whether or not to enter the portal.

So basically a lot of a10 programs have lost guys and not signed so many replacements. Just what I thought.

No reason to panic.

I feel zero panic, hoping we can upgrade because at the end of the day last year we finished 5th.

Some of the guys we have visiting and have visited are studs.
Agreed. Of course my text messages tell me otherwise in terms of some panic :ROFLMAO:

Please sign somebody. Anybody.
Right now I'd be excited if we signed Ralph Cramden and Ed Norton. :giggle:

I'm with you. I get the "let's not rush" argument, but let's face it, we ain't signing 7 players on the last day of the signing period. I don't know when the deadline is, but I think it is sometime in mid-May. So why not land one player a week until mid-May and finish with a flourish of 3 in the last few days?

"I mean throw us a friggin bone, here".

Just looking at stats so this could be a dumb question. What does he do that warrants transferring "up"?
At first glance, I tend to agree with you. But UNCW was a really good team last year. Maybe they just needed him to be a role player and not a scorer.

" The portal hasn’t been a consistently good thing for the players, either. According to a study performed by The Athletic, over 60% of players who transferred to a “Power-6” program saw their minutes decline with their new team and even more saw their scoring drop. A concerningly high number of players who enter the portal never play again, as well. About 43% of transfer portal entrants after the 2021-2022 season did not make it onto a roster for the 2022-2023 season.

Figuring out the perfect solution to these problems won’t be easy, but NCAA basketball fans know one thing: the status quo isn’t working. "

Wow, the schools they are trying to transfer out of don’t take them back? That’s pretty crazy. 43% is a lot.

Seems like an extremely misleading article. Both Miller and Kolek "saw their minutes decline and their scoring drop". How's that working out for them?

The 43% number also seems inflated. I'm guessing it doesn't account for guys who enter the portal but decide to give up their remaining eligibility to go pro, or account for guys that drop to D2. We've only had 1 player enter the portal and not end up on a new roster. So are the Mike Gray types the ones getting screwed by the portal? How much blame should the coaches share for pushing kids into the portal to clear scholarships?

you cite Miller and Kolek, why not cite the other players who left the program last year. Did they end up at P-6 programs? Are they playing in the NBA or professionally elsewhere?

At all level - 2000 players in the portal - simply not enough scholarships to go around. It is basketball musical chairs - the top 100 or so will do fine, but the average player will not.

What portal guy that we have offered do you want the most?

I’ll go first, I want Keyshawn Hall, I feel like in the 4 out scheme, he may be the perfect 3/4 in the A10. He’s a big body, can shoot some and has some shake. If we land him, I’m chugging a Miller Lite.
