Just gonna point out again that our schedule isn’t close to finalized.

But hey, Liberty getting a home-and-home with Missouri is a perfectly logical reason for George Mason fans to be complaining.

It’s a double edged sword; if we become a Q1 or Q2 road game P5s won’t schedule us because the risk of losing is real (see Dayton right now, struggling to schedule P5s for true home and homes). I really don’t understand why we can’t do it now against lower end P5 teams who aren’t going to be pushing for the top half of their conference that season who don’t necessarily have anything to lose but could benefit from a game in great recruiting territory.

I think we are in the perfect spot to do so Jim. And teams better and worse off than us in the A10 and lower leagues have no issue doing so themselves... seems like a Paulsen issue not an issue with P5's scheduling them. I mean Jesus Mizzou and Liberty?!?!!?

Also teams all around us in A10 already have these P5 home and homes on the book. saving best for last or does Paulsen realize it takes very little to appease our coy fan base? Win 8-9 non conference games against nobodies and come in 5th in the A10 and you and your cronies will ask to erect a bust of Paulsen slurping Mt Dew in replacement of the Mason statue on campus

There's a risk-benefit analysis for sure, but when you're talking about a solid Q1 road game (especially one that's a top 25 team), there is something to gain by playing them and not that much to lose. When you're talking about losing by 20 points to Mason (like Penn State did a few years ago), there's very little that was gained in playing us and a whole lot that was potentially lost.

Liberty was almost 100 places higher in Kenpom than us last season. And with a 67 NET, they would be a Q1 road game. We would have been a Q3 road game last season, so why would you risk losing to a Q3 team on the road in the early season?

ok and that's great but they lost their top 3 players from that roster. All I have been hearing is how good we could be next year because of our senior laden team. Are P5's really looking at last years teams when they make the schedules? Do you really think Liberty will be better than us after losing 50% of their scoring? Wasn't GW right with us in KenPOM last year but they don't seem to have a problem picking up P5 H-H series?

You're not going to get anywhere talking about last years Ken Pom... I really hope that drubbing of Penn St didn't scare away every other P5 away because that is pretty much what the defense has been and that is really dumb.

Yes we have 5 open slots left. And depending on who fills those 5 slots, you’ll have an opportunity to either rip the coach for scheduling too soft or taking games against teams we can’t possibly beat. Because no matter who we schedule, we all know you will find some reason to complain about it.

If he schedules top 75 ken Pom for 3 of the 5 games And at least one P5 home and home I won’t say shit. But we both know paulsen would never do that.

mason never has gotten very many power 5 home and homes in general. Maybe 3 or 4 in 15 years. I just don’t expect them. The bb and t used to be an easy way to get a power 5 to come close to fairfax.

I do however hope that we get 2 home and homes that are half decent in addition to the two buy games mason will probably play. There needs to be some “meat” to the schedule. I like local, and I like odu and jmu, but if odu and jmu suck (which they do), you have to compensate.

Mississippi State, UVA, and Penn State are the only three I can think of in the last 15 years.

south Florida I guess sorta counts. Oklahoma was a dc game and trip to Oklahoma. But other than that, it’s mostly MAAC, Ivy League, CAA, Atlantic sun, etc. Usually Mason always gets a chance in a neutral game in a tournament.

It was, but it basically was a "neutral and road game" series. Still got Oklahoma to come close to Fairfax! haha.

Liberty is probably a better opponent than we are right now or over the past few years but there is no excuse why we can't get a home and home with someone like Tech, UVA, Penn State. Fairfax/Nova is flooded with their alumni and would almost be like a home game for them. I have no clue what DP's scheduling philosophy is, especially with a senior laden team like we have this year.

Probably? Liberty is a better program. Period.

CAA vs A10, apples to oranges. It stings seeing other similar teams to us in conference nab home and homes and we aren’t.

was William and Mary and Towson pulling in good ACC teams to do H-H with? if they were and Mason wasn't I would hope people would be pissed. We are in the A-10... scheduling cream puffs for moral confidence is for the Fordham's of the conference. I would hope we don't want to be Fordham

Jim where in my statement did I ask for a home game against a P5?

Coach L didn’t get them to come to Fairfax either but he wasn’t afraid to play them, if you go back and look at the schedules we usually at least played 1 top 25 team OOC each year. Some years were definitely helped by the BB&T Classic but they were still on the schedule.
Also when the final schedule is announced I’m not going to bitch either way. I was just making a statement of what I would like to see but not expecting.
