after signing their 7th recruit in 2020, Duquesne is now 3 scholarships over the limit. Last year they were 1 over the limit right up until the season started. Can someone smarter than me tell me what is going on? I feel like I have asked this 3 times and never got an answer that makes sense. @Pablo I hate to task you but if anyone can find out exactly why this can happen it would be you. Are they waiting for 3 people to transfer out that are currently on the roster? They really only have one returnee as a transfer candidate from MPG and stats alone (not a Duquesne expert by any means).

Their new 2020 freshman class:
Acuff: offered by pretty much entire MAC and UMASS
Okani: offered by Minnesota, UMASS, Coastal Carolina and Hofstra
Chad Baker: no other offers
Andre Harris: offered by Washington St, New Mexico, Tulsa, St John's, Georgetown and TCU (this kid is gonna be huge)
Bekelja: D2 schools
Mounir Hima: offered by vcu, Rhode Island, UMASS, BONA
Jett Roesing: (great name) offered by UMASS, Towson, Fordham and low level D1.

My only thoughts are that Baker and Bekelja are PFO but that would still put them over the scholarship limit. I am probably going to tweet at the nice Duquesne fan. I get consistently every year recruiting over kids and cutting their scholarships (believe it or not we do it cough JDS cough) and I approve of this if you do it rarely. Just throwing this topic out there to see if anyone can help provide clarity.

"I agree. Regardless of what's going on, it doesn't look good. There should never be anything to hide, so they need to figure out the roster, and then make it public. Outsiders are looking askance at the program. We may say 'to hell with them', but it's a position I think we'd prefer not to be in."

My Duquesne twitter friend got back to me and says dambrot always over recruits one spot per year fearing attrition. This year it looks like he has 2 more guys than scholarships as nobody left like he thought. This guy thought dambrot might ask two recruits to prep a year and reclassify. What a game plan?!?!?

Must be nice to have a coach that can get players other programs want and not just diamonds in the rough.

Pretty favorable schedule. Of the Top 6 teams from last season, Richmond is the only team we have to play twice.

I’ll be surprised if this is the schedule we end up playing, unless they play with the dates and make it into group like scheduling.

All things considered, this is a decently middle of the road conference schedule. By no means the toughest, even though we draw Richmond twice. With our powderpuff nonconference though we’ll have to win the tournament to get a bid.

Next year top 5 teams With us not being included IMO should be St. Louis, Richmond, Bona, Duquesne and Umass. We play Umass and Richmond twice. Wish we had at least one more of that top 5 twice. But I can’t complain too much.
vcu and GW should be decent (hell GW beat us twice last year with that shit team). St joe could be Decent too depending on how all these transfers pan out. Daly back and he is a problem.
Need to win like 12-13 games. Hopefully our last couple OOC games are worth a shit but I doubt it.

Yeah, but we get the probable projected top 4 all on the road: Richmond, Bonaventure, SLU, Dayton (could also see Duquesne as a top 4 contender, which is a super tough home game; UMass as a sneaky top 6 pick x2). It's not an easy schedule, an easy schedule would be getting Fordham, St. Joe's and La Salle as home and home partners (did anyone get all three of those teams).

Umass is the fun and trendy top 5 pick but I’m not so sure I’m sold on it.

Otherwise I don’t think this will be the schedule either.

I still say that the A-10 should have come out with a 26-game, conference-only schedule with each team playing home and home against all teams in the league.

A missed opportunity...
Whose to say a 26 game, conference-only schedule isnt where they end up?
I dont mind acting as if things will be business as usual right now. Then should changes need to be made, I'm all for a 26 game all-A10 schedule.

I mean, those changes have to be pretty soon...students will be back on campus in a few weeks, contracts have been signed for preseason touranments, buy games, and home and homes and those will need to be renegotiated if they're not happening, etc. It goes from August to October REAL fast.

No they don’t lol. They aren’t even fully doing football which is a fall sport yet. Plenty of time to figure it out correctly

You think the clusterf*ck at the football conferences is good? None of those ADs knows what they're doing.

Absolutely not I just think you talking about home and home and non con tournaments being signed doesn’t give a damn about what’s going to happen. Football is changing everyday. Basketball has time to change. And it will or we won’t have a basketball season

I get that, but the longer you wait, the more chaos ensues.
