2019-20 Schedule Thread

This is pretty much the schedule strategy that I was asking for. I don’t project us as an at large team (no one does) and the conference schedule is going to be tough. You might as well rack up the wins where you can and stay at home. Something like 18+ wins would be a success in my book. 20+ would really be something to hang our hats on this year.

This is not a ooc schedule that makes me want to buy season tickets. These aren’t even decent to strong to mid-major home games. The quality of basket all will be mediocre at best.

It also doesn’t even give us much of a shot or even the fantasy of thinking we can get an at large. One loss at any of the home games and we are done. Even if we don’t lose those we need at least two out of three wins against the P5 we get to face and possibly win out against ODU and another decent mid major.

I hope they sell a conference only ticket package.
Really? I kind of like it. I see the opportunity to get at least 4 or 5 good wins. Maryland, Nebraska/Washington St., UMBC, TCU. Even ODU, I think they finished in the top 75 last year.

And I also like they scheduled cupcakes at home because I want to see them win at home again.

I said it was doubtful that we would only lose 3 games total including tourney in A-10.. I don't even think Jim and the other homers think that is a possibility. But sounds good. I won't watch any games then since you don't see the point

And your definition of what a OOC is comprised of is just not correct but that is common on this message board
Jim hasn't been on these boards in months, and he's still living rent free in your head.

switch out UMBC and ODU with Jacksonville St and I think you have a point there... Jax St might be better than any team on our OOC outside of Maryland, Nebraska and TCU.

We lose three A10 caliber players and bring in 1 that most think is and 2 that are virtually unknown so I don’t get your point or his if he said it that way. games
I don't necessarily look at it as losing Otis, Grayer, and Reuter, and adding XJ, Oduro, and Daddy, because those guys aren't really coming in to take their place. It's more like we are adding minutes for Hartwell, JDS, and AJ. Hartwell was a blur during the TBT scrimmage, but was still under control and consistent, and while taller guards (virtually every other guard) can shoot over him, he was keeping BA in front of him. JDS had some nice moments on both ends, as did AJ while spending 90% of his floor time at the 4 spot. You also have to consider Miller becoming more comfortable stepping out to the perimeter and knocking down the outside shot, which he did against TBT.
Totally agree that XJ seems to be the only freshman that could make an immediate impact, but we could be wrong. Oduro held his own in the scrimmage against the TBT team in back up minutes, mostly against Mike Mo.

I am probably higher on Hartwell than most. I would love for him to get 25+ mins per game and be the teams primary ballhandler (pertinent to keep Kier off the ball if we can).. I also think JDS could be a 3 point menace if he gets comfortable and gets minutes... and I think you can probably tell from my posting that AJ needs more PT but I say that with baited breath because it is super apparent Paulsen is not his biggest fan. I hated watching Reuter play but he is a better backup 5 for Calixte than AJ can be and we have yet again another season in which AJ is going to be forced to play majority of his minutes out of position.

Great points though and good insight on the scrimmage. I appreciate what you and ByGeorge contributed on that

Hartwell looks like a really good player to me. He reminds me of Joey Rodriguez from vcu.

Not only will I second this, but I will go as far as to say that Hartwell could be the most underrated player on our roster. I love his toughness, because kids like him thrive under pressure. You think he's going to be fazed by us bringing in two other PGs or playing against taller guards? Hell no, it will make him work even harder on both ends of the court.

Right now, he's the best perimeter shooter on our team, and he's going to get even better once he starts knocking down some of those mid-range jumpers and floaters he rushed last year.

It's a big season for Hartwell. He has 2 local PGs nipping at his heels for the job.

Who? XJ, who hasn't played a single college minute. And??
Polite coming in next season. I'm just saying there are kids waiting in the wings. Big season for him!

Limited sample size, but given his work last year, and what he showed against TBT, I think he's up for the challenge. I think Kier will run the offense for the most part (even if he doesn't necessarily bring the ball up), and Hartwell will be the secondary ball handler in the halfcourt, and the primary outside shooting threat when they are on the floor together. I see them working like MM and Otis did in 16-17.

If XJ pushes him for time this year, our backcourt will be in a fantastic situation heading into the future.

Oh trust me I'm rooting for Hartwell. Would love for him to show the entire West coast that they messed up for letting him leave.

I can see that. Overall the schedule is ok because of our road and tournament games. Personally, from a competitive standpoint this isn’t what I want to see or pay money for. At the end of the day, as a home fan, I’m not drawn to or excited for these games.

If we lose any of these “cupcakes” all hell will break loose on these boards again and I’m sure you’ll be leading the charge like last year.

It’s a no win situation for the team. And not fun for fans. If you win you should have won. If you lose, all you get is disappointment and anger.

It’s not like the OOC home games of a P5 school are all that scintillating either: tons of cupcakes with maybe one or two interesting matchups (maybe a intra-conference challenge matchup — speaking of, I think ours with the Mountain West starts next year, so hopefully we get a home game with a good partner).

We get plenty of good conference games (Richmond, vcu, URI, St. Bonaventure, Dayton) to get excited about.

Count me in on the Heart-well bandwagon.
I expect him to handle 25 mpg at point with X and an off ball guy handling the rest.

Really one of my three keys to the season. The other two being Mar development and better three-point percentage, most notably from Greene.

I mean you could throw a lot of other stuff in there, like with Calixte and Wilson but all I really care about is defense and rebounding and some garbage buckets from them, and Oduro. Which I think they'll generally provide.
