Looking at Burton's Instagram stories - I would be shocked if he went with us. Granted, I wasn't following him when he was on our visit, but he is gushing about his trip and his Big East offer with Butler.

I would love to see what we do for these kids when they visit Mason. Burton has been showing the hotel rooms and all the gift baskets/coaches notes from Butler/WSU... it's interesting to see.

More Twitter love too. Midwest is so welcoming. O'Connell's Xavier Johnson recently de-committed from Nebraska and you have old ladies on Twitter saying their grandson is heartbroken and shit like that.

Here we'd just have Gunnie and then next to nothing. Definitely people complaining, though.

Twitter-stalking can be both sad AND useful.

Somebody could definitely get on the news here by pulling a Dan Akyroyd/Daniel Stern and kidnapping one of these guys and tying them up until they understand OUR point of view by the way.

Ummm..... isn't that an NCAA violation? Who knows what"gifts" are in those baskets.

The best one I ever heard about it was Rollie Massomino, old coach at Villanova. I forget who he was recruiting, but kid was a Star Wars fan, so he hired Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok), to hide in costume in a giant gift basket and pop out to surprise the kid.

Kid loved it, went to Nova, but never did really take because he didn't do too much coke like the '86 guys.

Anyone know where our guys stay when they visit? I would love to know what a typical visit is like. Who do they meet with on campus, where do they go... that's all the nerdy background stuff that I love.

Five Two might be better equipped to answer this, but I don't think there is an upscale hotel anywhere near campus. We could impress recruits with the Ritz Carlton in Tysons, but that's quite a hike with traffic. I do know that we aren't going to win anybody over with a Courtyard, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn or Best Western.

We should have kept the Mason Inn and had a presidential suite set up on top just for recruits.

The Hyatt Regency in Fair Lakes is the nicest hotel that is close to campus. George Brett stayed there when he came to speak at the Mason Baseball dinner last year.

But I thought the recruits stayed with players, not at a hotel? Or has that changed?

Given the school has a deal with Marriott, I'm guessing the parents probably stay at either the Marriott near Fair Oaks Mall or the Residence Inn in Fairfax. The Ritz in Tyson's would be a hike.

The Men's US national soccer team stayed there for a world cup qualifier in DC one time. My friend was at the bar and called me to tell me all the players were there so I we went over there to meet them and get autographs.

Caputo used to pick up a duffel bag at a route 50 motel for the initial pay--I mean meeting--and L used to take kids to his colorful basement. That I know.

Not sure about Paulsen but I'm assuming his hook involves snacks and tasty refreshments of some sort. Maybe at Joe Shannon's house, don't know.
