2018 Recruiting

Who's left for us to even go after?

There are literally thousands of uncommitted high school players in America and overseas.

Of the two best players on our team, one (Otis) signed in the spring and the other (Jaire) signed in August. Plenty of time left in this recruiting cycle.

Losing out on Wood feels pretty bad right now, but there's no reason the staff can't find a player just as good or better between now and the start of the 2018-19 season.

We are in some trouble. Right now URI has a Top 15 recruiting class for 2018 right behind Duke. Paulson plays a team ball with talent but we better start winning some of these battles in 2019!

1. It would have been great to land Adams but we didn't lose the battle for him. We were never seriously in it. He didn't even give us an official visit.

2. If we are in trouble because of Hurley's recruiting, so is the rest of the A-10. But that's only if you put a lot of stock in recruiting rankings.

3. It's still early. Rhode Island has a very nice class, but will not finish with a top-15 recruiting class by the time all is said and done.

4. Hurley will not be at URI long term. Somebody is going to make him an offer he can't refuse, perhaps as soon as the next offseason. Their fans should enjoy watching him whine like a pissy little bitch while they can.

The crazy thing is that 4 kids from their 2018 class are from the DMV area. It's our duty to beat their asses this season to get their reach out of here.

Hurley made 1 NCAA tournament in 10 years and a handful of NITs. Let's not over hype him.

We need to find Dave Cox a new f*cking job. Maybe Louisville will hire him to replace Kenny Johnson.

He's got the name and the recruiting connections. Some P5 athletic director will eventually throw a bunch of money at him.

Once Paulsen has a couple of successful years in a row back to back, recruits will be falling over themselves to come to Mason so I am not worried at all about our future.

When Rhode Island loses to us at their place and then again in the A10 tournament this year, many players will second guess their choices.

They will be riding the bench on a team who lost to the school they didn't chose, the coach that kissed their asses will be gone. This will make the effects of home sickness even worse (If you've ever been to Rhode Island, you know what I mean) All these reasons all balled up into one, they will be giving Paulsen a call. Guarantee it. But who knows if we'll have room for them or even want them at that time.

The Rhode Island commits decisions will prove nothing but a mistake to their careers and they will take a circuitous route to their graduations (if they graduate at all). We've all seen this pattern happen repeatedly, but each recruit and their parents think their kid is special and will not fall into this pattern.

Not to defend URI, but URI has a dope campus, pretty darn good facilities and they are like an hour from Providence and 3 hours from Boston, so I don't really understand your disdain for the location.

And also, URI should 20 piece every other team in the A10 this year.. But I hope you are right about us beating them twice

I guess I meant the state as a whole. To me URI is not good enough to make up for the rest of the state.

They barely beat us last year with an even more stacked roster...

Also, Providence is like the armpit of New England and 3 hours from anywhere when you are a college student is insanely far (how often did you travel to Philly when you went to school at Mason?)

Providence is the most lively city in the six state New England region after Boston. It is actually considered hip with a great food, entertainment, and arts scene. It hosts the home campus of five colleges - Brown, RI School of Design (RISD), Johnson & Wales (JWU), Providence College, and RI College. The first three have their campuses right in the downtown with Ivy League Brown adding an academic edge, RISD an artsy creative vibe, and JWU enhancing the food scene with its acclaimed culinary arts program. The city has a lot of architectural detail with one of the largest collections of colonial era buildings still standing.

As for URI, it is in a rural setting located in a coastal town just miles from beautiful beaches (there is a off road bike path trail that connects them). It is surprisingly considered the best school for surfing north of UNC Wilmington. The campus is just 30 miles from Providence, 78 miles from Boston, and 160 miles from NYC. An Amtrak station in just a mile from campus and the Bos-Wash corridor tracks run along the school's outer fringe.
