2016-17 Schedule Thread

Feel free to disagree, but I enjoy watching Mason basketball -- now that we have a real coach -- whether the opponent is Kentucky or Lake Braddock HS.

I also enjoy Chick-fil-a.

Playing Lebanon Valley looks like a win-win from where I'm sitting.

im with you, I dont care who Mason play, i just enjoy being there and watching the games. Now if Mason were coming off a conference championship and a sweet 16 run in the NCAA, then scheduled Lebanon Valley, i would have an issue. For now, Im happy with whoever is on the schedule.

Ok so we have some on here who are just happy Mason has basketball games to play and other guys like Vurbel who DEMAND EXCELLENCE and expect the NCAA tournament each year. Can someone join in the middle somewhere?

It's late June and we apparently didn't have a home opener booked. Last year we embarrassingly lost that opener to a bad team, so this year we made it more of a sure thing by booking a JV team. Plus, LVC does have a more recent NBA minute played than we do, with Andy Panko logging a minute for the Hawks in 2001.

Isn't Towson the home opener this year on November 12th? LVC is November 15th (I think, too lazy to verify)

Probably. I was too lazy to look as well. OK, I've got nothing else then. Maybe there's a prized recruit in Annville that we are hoping to impress.

I am all-in on the #BeatLebanonValley movement... But I am very curious as to why this one game matters so much...

I get the 'schedule winnable games' argument. But aren't there DI schools in the region we could schedule for an easy W like UMBC or Delaware St? Or is this a matter of RPI? UMBC and Delaware were 338 and 345, respectively last season. Does Lebanon Valley not count against the RPI?

Non-div 1 teams do not count against RPI.

It could be an RPI thing (the A10 punishes teams who schedule too lightly in the OOC). It could also be no one else was available to come in on that date. It could be a couple of other reasons.

Last season none of us thought we had a chance in the Charleston Classic and look what happened there. I hate the fact that we have zero chance of a marquee win in the non-conference slate and we are scheduling glorified scrimmages with open slots. Sorry but I'd rather see a how our boys do on a tough road test in the Big East or Acc than this. Don't think that is an unreasonable way to think from a fans perspective but I guess I'm in the minority.

Aren't we playing Penn state in the road? Or does that start next year? Our first game in the Gulf Coast is also
Against a Houston team that might be a top 50.

Also a lot of the lesser known mid-major teams we played in the OOC finished with better records and RPIs than our two "marquee" wins against Ole Miss and OK St.

If the non DI game is tied to the exempted event as an option then there is no other opponent option available. View it as a glorified exhibition game because it has no effect on RPI. He is probably preparing the new ducklings for the GCC and beyond. Ponder.

As far as I know, Penn State starts this year. Don't forget we make a trip to UNI again as well. They may be down this year (lots of graduations) but they're always a solid opponent.

That Kent State team in the GCC might be pretty good, too.

Does anybody know when the game at the Palestra vs Penn is? Apologies if it has already been said.
