2016-17 Schedule Thread

To me it's strange largely because I don't think many other DI schools do it, but perhaps it's significantly cheaper then paying for a 1 and done with a lower tier DI school? Maybe they run a system similar to what DP coaches or wants to play against?

Can a DII or DIII school count any lower RIP wise then a #300 team?

Maybe it's done to purposefully have a game at the RAC each/most years? I have expressed to the AD how much I like those games and know others have as well.

It doesn't count at all for or against RPI.

To be the best, you gotta play the best. Not IF ANDS OR BUTTS ABOUT IT.

I have heard that teams in the Gulf Coast Showcase frequently schedule a non-D1 as their "fourth game" as part of that event. So it's possible this was encouraged by the tournament sponsors.

What's the difference? What is the significance of the "fourth game" being played at your home site? Am I missing something?

News flash: We're not close to being the best at anything basketball-related right now.

We are a program that is slowly rebuilding. Headed in the right direction again. Why does it matter who we schedule?

Hell. I remember Miami scheduling Nova Southeastern in 2010 or 2011.

If it doesnt matter, why not let our young guys see and feel some top level competition. Kinda like Bowden did with FSU football. You only learn from better competition. Div II programs have no business on our sched.

Stop being a snob. At least we aren't East Carolina where half our schedule are division 2 and 3 teams.

As long as this doesn't become an every year thing, I have no problem with it.

It's a loophole that allows us to add an extra game to our schedule (31 vs 30).

I don't understand the complaining. Our guys need to play as many games as possible.

Spot on.

I'm pretty sure when we're ready to go dancing again, DP will be scheduling accordingly.

Until then, it's about letting the kids play and develop chemistry with each other.

IF it's an extra game then I'm cool with it. I thought it was a reg season non conf game like Catawaba was. Anything from The Virus' past causes outbursts.

My assumption is BE and DP are feeling the pressure to show results. Scheduling easy competition will almost guarantee a better record then last year.

At the end of the season they can say the team is moving in the right direction, look at how many more wins we have compared to last season.

I don't think they feel any real pressure to show results this season at all. It's year 2 of what is likely a 5 year process. I am sure that improvement is a goal and is expected, but real progression and results will come in due time. I think that this game is being completely overblown. It's simply another game and more opportunity for our young team to get on the court.

Nobody should act like we are "too good" for a game like this or act like this team is beneath us, or not up to our standards. We won 11 games last year. We have a long way to go before anyone should start worrying about whether our OOC schedule is strong enough.

This is DP's 1st full recruiting class as Fr. He pasted together these Sophomores in April after everyone bailed. I think he and the AD have a building process and we're watching it real time. No issues here with where we're headed.

I don't feel like we're too good for such a game, but any time a D-1 school schedules a D-3 school it raises some eyebrows. My buddy was at St. Bona in the early '90's and they scheduled Elmira College. He worked for the student newspaper and asked the then AD TOC about it and was told a lot of alums lived in Elmira. I think if it's an add game it's more tolerable, but don't think its snobby to question it. I like D-3 ball, but you're looking at two different levels of athlete.

My only gripe is that there's a pretty big drop off between DII and DIII. There are some very good DII schools, as we've seen, that can hang with DI schools. I just don't see the value in this, seems like Paulsen is just giving his old buddy an "event".

Feel free to disagree, but I enjoy watching Mason basketball -- now that we have a real coach -- whether the opponent is Kentucky or Lake Braddock HS.

I also enjoy Chick-fil-a.

Playing Lebanon Valley looks like a win-win from where I'm sitting.
