Also, is there something about these scrimmages that prevents them from being open? Seems like a good way to make sole cash with how many tech fans live here. $5 to get in, might be an away game in Fairfax but it doesn't matter for anything.
the NCAA prevents it. if it was open, then Va Tech isn't coming to Fairfax for an exhibition for all to see.

Curious why Virginia Tech did not bring their whole team. Former GMU Devin Wilson was not playing it seems.

Devin plays (rides the bench) on the football team as well. I'm pretty sure that's why he was out. He wouldn't have made a difference. His stats have decreased since his freshman year. Only averaged 2 points a game last year.

Here's the 2nd half stat sheet from the Va Tech scrimmage courtesy of the the Va Tech BBall board...

Several positives (although it's only 20 minutes of a scrimmage so take it with a grain of salt):

  • Decent FG% for the team. 3-6 on 3-pt shoots is solid.
  • 49 points in a half against an ACC team is very good.
  • Very good FT% for the team (14-16; MM was 7-8).
  • Team held its own on the glass ( 21 rebounds vs 21 for VaTech).
  • 42% Off. Rebounding % is very good. Allowed Va Tech 42% of Off Rebs - - not so good.
  • Team forced 9 TOs while only committing 5 TOs.
  • Starting five played well (although Jenkins had 3 fouls in 9 minutes).
  • The bench contributed - the four freshmen each played 5-7 mins and appeared to hold their own.
  • Otis played a solid 18 minutes -- does not appear that he is hurt.
  • Nice shooting half for Abram.
  • Very good all-around half for Moore and Grayer as well.
No idea how the first half went...

Kam only played one minute? Is he in DP's doghouse?

Could be.

Could be he played more in the first period of the scrimmage.

Could be he's behind Boyd, Newman and Kier on the pecking order.

Of course, could also be staff wanted to give the freshmen more time to see how they'd react against an ACC team.

Bottom line is, lots of competition for backcourt minutes and that's a great thing.
