GIVING DAY 2023
here is a current write up on Gilbert on ESPN.

Updated 03/30/2015
Strengths:
Long lefty combo-forward who can shoot the ball to the arc, make defensive plays because of his long wingspan and play a couple of different positions. He still has a lot of untapped upside as he becomes more versatile on the offensive end and learns to utilize his length more effective. Very good hands for tip-ins on offensive glass, handle has come along and can pound out couple of times after pulling down defensive board to start break, can also make a straight line drive. Should develop into the type of guy who can create mismatches by scoring over smaller defender or going by less mobile ones.
Weaknesses:
Approaches the offensive end primarily as a three-point shooter but stroke isn't quite pure enough to be that one dimensional; shot low percentage in EYBL and has noticeably big twist in his mechanics. While handle has come along he plays noticeably high off the ground, isn't more than a straight line driver and can really struggle with his decision making, especially when defensive rotations force him to improvise.
Bottom Line:
He's undeniably talented and unique, but offensive efficiency is a concern at the next level, especially given how glued he is to the three-point line

I know everyone is going to freak out if Gilbert leaves. The same thing happened at GW when Karl Hobbs got fired and they lost a highly touted recruit out of Philly...........Eric Copes.

Oh Gilbert is def gone. Would love for him to have stayed, cause I think Paulsen will be better for him (and all of our players) in the long run....but these kids....

Maybe Skeeters played a huge role in recruiting Gilbert..if so, and he stays, they should reinforce the idea of actually winning basketball games, potentially. As that clearly wasn't going to happen at a high rate under that other 'coach'.
But, im realistic and can see the chances of us keeping him are slim. Kid has been lighting it up.

If Gilbert chooses to go somewhere else I wish him the best. Now lets go out and find a player that fits ours need moving forward in this new system.

Shocked that the Post's part-time beat writer was wrong about Gilbert.

I think after DP has a chance to talk with Ahmad and sell him on how well he'd fit in an offense that will emphasize the 3-ball, he'll decide to stay.

Ahmad is another kid who is a more natural match for Paulsen's system than he would've been for Bozo's. He's a shooter, not a slasher. He should stick with a coach who will get him many, many open shots over the next four years.

Whatever Gilbert decides he decides. But I hope he understands things just got a lot better for him and the program. I think Paulsen knows how to use players the right way....

More importantly, he's with a coach now who just got to the NCAAT starting several freshmen. It's one thing to start freshmen on a crappy team like we did last year; it's something entirely different when the team is really good.

Bucknell was a NIT team this year weren't they?
