GIVING DAY 2023
Don't worry I already saw one fan say "Hey don't worry at least we aren't GMU or U of R?"

Coaching changes can make a lot of things change. Recruits, style of play, fans will go away if the team starts to suck. But of course they have to take stabs at other schools cause they are perennial national contenders.

I'll be interested to see what coach they bring in, but one thing for certain is that the guy won't be worshiped like Shaka off the bat (and he wasn't even liked until the FF run).

Yeah they aren't GMU which means they don't have our academics, don't have a campus like ours, aren't located in northern Va but Richmond, are comprised of hipsters and art majors and live on cigarettes and ramen.

Our great University fires our imposter of a coach, stepping up to the plate and buying out his final year.

We replace bozo with what looks to be a smart, calculated hire. He isn’t a splashy big name that we had our sights set on, and most of us hadn’t heard of him, but all he’s done is won. Games, tourney’s and COY. The guy wins, knows X’s and O’s, recruits, and brings an excitement to the team and to the fanbase. Great public speaker. Now he’s stepping up in conference, you know he’s going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder and to prove that he can win at our level. I am just glad we got rid of PH and have a new coach, that appears to coach. Make adjustments. Wins. I just want to go to the PC and watch competitive games. I want home court advantage.

Oh, and Smart is gone… and Richmond is burning,….again…

We took a lot of steps back when we lost L, our administration set us back. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how vcu moves forward as far as coaching staff, recruits, fanbase, Havok, etc.

oh glorious day callooh callay

good luck school of art…not

What a great day. Couldn't have happened to a more arrogant and classless fan base. Havoc has moved from the courts of vcu to the AD's office (who doesn't have the Villa 7 and hasn't yet made a coaching decision). I hope their next hire bombs.

Walk-On
From their boards:

I'm sure that what I have to say is neither unique nor surprising. As a fan, I understand that I am entitled to nothing from the team and program that I follow, regardless of my emotional attachment to them, it is an entirely one-sided affair. But I just had to write something.

I do not begrudge Shaka Smart, the coach, taking this opportunity. Not only is he joining the richest athletic department in college sports, but he will have access to 5 star recruits to run his system at the highest level and realistically challenge for a national championship on a perennial basis. This is an opportunity to prove himself on the biggest stage with no handicaps, and to fully realize his vision. This is an unparalleled professional opportunity.

Who I do find fault with is Shaka Smart, the man. This man has built an entire mythos around his own life history of abandonment, first by his biological father and then by his college coach. This man publicly claimed to be devastated by these events. He claimed to have a deep sense of responsibility to not visit that same level of abandonment on his surrogate children, his team. He said he was their father figure. He didn't want them to cry and feel utterly detached (as he supposedly did) when his coach moved on. He spouted this line of rhetoric publicly many times and in many different forums, and we can be sure that he employed it privately on the recruiting trail as well. I'm not naive enough to think that Mr. Smart promised us, the fans, anything. He never explicitly promised to stay here forever. Given that, however, the legend he has woven around himself has been an implicit promise of the loyalty and stability that he never had and claimed to have wanted so badly. Say what you will about coaches Capel and Grant; at least they never claimed to have some mystical sense of loyalty and appreciation. Their departures were hurtful to the program, but they weren't the moral and ethical gut punch that Smart's exit is.

Reconciling this man (not the coach) with the events of 4/2/2015 is frankly not possible. Either Mr. Smart had a massive change of heart, or he was hoodwinking us the entire time. Again, what I feel as a fan is not important. Our incoming recruits are the lucky ones. They have an opportunity to move on before investing too heavily. I feel for our current Rams, who now face the same level of callous abandonment that Mr. Smart claimed (to paraphrase) was the worst feeling ever. I hold no emnity towards those who end up transferring. For those that stay, I have the greatest respect and admiration.

Appreciation. Respect. Loyalty. Love. Teamship.

All of the noble words that characterized Smart's reign seem like cheap, empty slogans now.

I guess it is possible to run from happiness after all.

All I can say is Wow! I would wonder if this guy understands the real world, bu tI guess not, he's from Richmond.
