I agree, the margin of error to hire the right coach is greater from the pressure to replace such a figure on the program. We had to deal with the same.
It's a worse job than it was 4 hours ago.
Good luck trying to replace that guy.
Shaka was a god to the hipsters -- I
think they truly believed that he loved them and loved Richmond and would never leave. As usual, it turned out to
be so much BS.
The fickle bastards in their fan base will go berserk and cannibalize the next coach after his first 2-game
losing streak.
Oh happy day. Someone needs to post Cartman tasting Scott Tennerman's tears.
From their boards:
I'm sure that what I have to say is neither unique nor surprising. As a fan, I understand that I am entitled to nothing from the team and program that I follow, regardless of my emotional attachment to them, it is an entirely one-sided affair. But I just had to write something.
I do not begrudge Shaka Smart, the coach, taking this opportunity. Not only is he joining the richest athletic department in college sports, but he will have access to 5 star recruits to run his system at the highest level and realistically challenge for a national championship on a perennial basis. This is an opportunity to prove himself on the biggest stage with no handicaps, and to fully realize his vision. This is an unparalleled professional opportunity.
Who I do find fault with is Shaka Smart, the man. This man has built an entire mythos around his own life history of abandonment, first by his biological father and then by his college coach. This man publicly claimed to be devastated by these events. He claimed to have a deep sense of responsibility to not visit that same level of abandonment on his surrogate children, his team. He said he was their father figure. He didn't want them to cry and feel utterly detached (as he supposedly did) when his coach moved on. He spouted this line of rhetoric publicly many times and in many different forums, and we can be sure that he employed it privately on the recruiting trail as well. I'm not naive enough to think that Mr. Smart promised us, the fans, anything. He never explicitly promised to stay here forever. Given that, however, the legend he has woven around himself has been an implicit promise of the loyalty and stability that he never had and claimed to have wanted so badly. Say what you will about coaches Capel and Grant; at least they never claimed to have some mystical sense of loyalty and appreciation. Their departures were hurtful to the program, but they weren't the moral and ethical gut punch that Smart's exit is.
Reconciling this man (not the coach) with the events of 4/2/2015 is frankly not possible. Either Mr. Smart had a massive change of heart, or he was hoodwinking us the entire time. Again, what I feel as a fan is not important. Our incoming recruits are the lucky ones. They have an opportunity to move on before investing too heavily. I feel for our current Rams, who now face the same level of callous abandonment that Mr. Smart claimed (to paraphrase) was the worst feeling ever. I hold no emnity towards those who end up transferring. For those that stay, I have the greatest respect and admiration.
Appreciation. Respect. Loyalty. Love. Teamship.
All of the noble words that characterized Smart's reign seem like cheap, empty slogans now.
I guess it is possible to run from happiness after all.
Hewitt shitcanned and replaced with a competent coach.
Larranaga blows the NIT final.
Shaka leaves vcu.
Best week ever?
Looks like fatso has a new hat.
He knew what was up.It appears their AD was in Indy this entire time, if I am reading their boards correctly.
I just want one video of a grown @ss adult crying after hearing the news. I know one has to be out there. That would make my day.
