If you are into that kind of thing, more power to you. But, I am not sure if it helps us to hire him or not.
Maybe he has heard about the size of my jock strap

One reason he's free to swing for the fences is because even if he doesn't knock it out of the park, he's most likely gonna wind up with a stand-up double at worst.

Prohm = HR
Young = Triple
Moton = Double

Now that Charlotte has hired Price, our biggest competition for Moton is gone. Young hasn't even been mentioned in connection with any other jobs.

No way we're hitting a single with this hire. No freaking way.

While we're throwing out baseball analogies, what was the Hewitt hire? At time it felt like a double but now I'd say it was a walk at best.

I thought the link said that Hurley had agreed to an extension, but wasn't signing anything yet and still wanted to keep his options open.

If I read that wrong, or am simply remembering something that never existed, my apologies.

I think you are right but the reports are all over the place. The apology is all mine. What a fluid situation. This is a bit of a rollercoaster.

Murray State lost on a buzzer beater prayer at ODU, not a far drive from Norfolk to Fairfax for a meeting :)

This article says that Prohm had turned down Mississippi State's offer of $1m a few years back:

Also talks about Anthony Grant (who is described in terms similar to some complaints about Hewitt not being out in the community).

If true then that means he isn't as douchy as Barnes. He probably turned down Miss St because he had only been at Murray State for one year.

I think he is ready to jump now. We might be the best place to jump. He knows the area. Hopefully we are offering $1M plus incentives.

I think we have at best a 30% chance of landing him. Time for Brad earn his BBB nickname. He really hasn't earned it yet. It was based on a @FirePaulHewitt meme, not on anything he had actually done at Mason yet.

Some good stuff here on open coaching jobs. But we don't even get a mention. WTF?

Because as I have been cautioned....despite what we feel here on the boards....the George Mason name is not "trendy" in the coaching world. We can boast all we want here, but to outsiders...we really are just run of the mill right now.

We're in a good conference (thank god for the A10 move or the fall from grace would be even worse), good location, but we have been weakened by the Hewitt regime, questions about commitment linger from Larranaga, and are usually a backseat program in a talent rich market. Coaches and especially agents...keep tabs on these things and look at it differently than the fan base.

It's up to Edwards et al...to change their perception and sell one of these guys. Otherwise the Prohms of the world will always take a Miss. State, Va Tech, etc over Mason.

I know you enjoy playing the "reality check" guy on this board -- hell, I even appreciate it most of the time -- but I am unconvinced that because we weren't mentioned in some "Rumors" blog on FanSided (whatever that is), our program is somehow irrelevant.

So many of these websites are run by guys who know nothing, but throw crap against a wall in search of clicks.

Is our job as "hot" (perceived) as it was in 2011? No.

Is it "better" from a structural standpoint, with Edwards running the show? Absolutely.

I remain confident that our AD will have several quality coaches on campus, where he will lay out his vision for making our program something far better than a plucky Cinderella.

One of them will buy in ... and I guarantee the clowns at FanSided will be the last people on earth to know about it.

I keep reading on other team’s message boards about Larranaga leaving and how this job can't be that good because we let him go. Coaches will know that all that was under a different president and a different AD.

I think our job falls somewhere in the middle of other people's perception and our perception. It's not nearly as bad as others think, but we aren't Georgetown or Maryland either.

If you want to coach in a multi-bid league for a team in a great recruiting area that has mediocre facilities, this is your place. ;) Hopefully those in power have a plan to upgrade the facilities that they can show to coaches to make it even more appealing.

Can I like this post twice? Or maybe even three times?

Oh, I also forgot to add the part where we spend somewhere in the middle of the pack for hoops compared to the rest of the league. Hopefully those numbers will also be on the rise.
