As someone is very familiar with the D League and having season tickets the easy answer is NO. 12 and 7 in the D league is not top 50 for call ups. There is a lot of big man talent down there that are way ahead of him in development. He will have a slight chance next year if he improves greatly, otherwise probably not going to happen.

What a shame... I have never bought a jersey before, I don't even like the NBA. But if he gets called up I am buying his Jersey.

Good luck to Tony! If you can recall, he interviewed at Mason 2 years ago, but Paulsen went with Simpkins instead.

"First up is Tony Skinn, who is known as a smart, aggressive, hard working assistant, comfortable in multiple settings.

Tony Flynn, training a guard with Team Takeover.
HoyaReport.com

A present assistant at Louisiana Tech for two years where he recruited current Conference USA Rookie of the Year Daquan ‘Day-Day’ Bracey (who the Hoyas walked away from), Skinn has made an impact in Ruston, LA. For the Bulldogs, Skinn has also been credited for helping former Conference USA Player of the Year Alex Hamilton to that award, as well as Erik McCree, who was tabbed honorable mention Associated Press All-American.

Having parentage born in Nigeria, Skinn has started for that country’s Olympic team in 2012 as a point guard during the London competition. As a result of that experience, and the fact he’s presently a Nigerian Olympic team coach, Skinn has connections on the African continent for players.

Add roots in the District-Maryland-Virginia region as a boon in recruiting for Skinn, who starred at/graduated from Takoma Academy (MD) in 2001.

Before college coaching, Skinn was a Team Takeover (AAU) coach, making his mark as a teacher; guards are his specialty. While with Takeover, present Hoya guard Tre Campbell learned from him, among others.

The last point makes sense; as an ’03-06 George Mason backcourt guy, Skinn helped the Patriots to the 2006 Final Four. During that historic season, Skinn logged 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for Mason, in 34 minutes each time out. He was the guard who constantly pressured defenses, being someone who must be game planned against in the process.

After college, Skinn played professionally in Europe for seven seasons, continuing his work as and reputation for being a dynamic lead guard. Stops in France, Italy, Germany and Italy were experienced."

Honestly, it's a good look for our program as a whole that we can produce players that develop into coaches too. If he can use this as a stepping stone towards a low-major HC position then work his way up that'd be dope.

It could hurt us with some local recruiting but, that what we have Simpkins for and (hopefully) a good 17-18 season to solidify future recruiting efforts in the area.

What other former players have become coaches? I can only think of Ahmad Dorsett, assistant at High Point.

I know Tim Burns is an athletics trainer (trained Mike Muscala apparently pre-NBA draft), which is a kind of coaching.

Tremaine Price, Avery Carey, Lamar Butler, Trent Wurtz, Allen Johnson, & Troy Manns. Interestingly, Dorsett, Price, Carey, & Johnson played on Coach Larranaga's first Mason team (1997-98).

Trivia Question - Who was the last Mason men's basketball scholarship player from Fairfax County?

Now if Tony gets the job he can convince Patrick Ewing to schedule local schools for home and home :crazytongue:
Word on the street is that the Hoyas' schedule next year will be filled with 200+ RPI games whether the coach was going to be JTIII or Ewing. Basically, gives new meaning to the term Georgetown Cupcake. Sorry........

"After averaging an impressive 17.8 points and 9.4 rebounds (4.4 offensive) per game on 61% from the field, it would seem that Shevon Thompson has a legitimate chance to get a call-up next season."

http://www.ridiculousupside.com/201...e-nba-big-dleague-erie-bayhawks-dleague-nbadl:

"If he can improve his rim-protection (just .4 blocks in 21 minutes per game) and position himself just a split second quicker, he has the potential to be an above average defender. Along with those physical traits, just playing in the Summer League and D-League is the best way for him to improve on defense by getting more reps.

After averaging an impressive 17.8 points and 9.4 rebounds (4.4 offensive) per game on 61% from the field, it would seem that Shevon Thompson has a legitimate chance to get a call-up next season. That call-up would come if Thompson can refine his post-game, continue to expand the jump shot to 15 feet and learn how to rotate and play defense. Think of how many years everyone else has been playing this sport as opposed to Thompson. As a wise man once said, 'The ceiling is the roof' for this guy. The call isn’t as far off as some may think."
