If you had an opportunity to more than double your current salary and compete in one of the best basketball conferences in the nation, would you take it or would you be worried that people might criticize you for changing jobs too often?

I’m taking the job.
That said, I am questioning why it is worth it to be a fan of a mid major team. If the up and comer you take a chance on will have the opportunity to leave for greener pastures before coming close to the NCAA's or even an NIT, what's the point? If KE leaves, GMU faces a rebuild again and the possibility next guy is also gone after a 7 game win streak. We may as well all pick one of 10-15 blue bloods to root for.

I thought English leaving would be a result of us getting back to the tournament.

Losing a possibly great coach to a higher level program wihtout getitng any of the benefits of being a stepping stone, hurts. It hurts really bad.
Exactly! I understand being a stepping stone level job. But usually, the old school at least gets the benefit and joy of making the big dance first.

If KE leaves, he did what is best for him.
But as for us, it would have been better if he had never come. All "his" guys leave, he didn't give us a sniff of the post season, all the hype was smoke, and we are at the bottom again.
Yes, I can't blame him if he goes, but that doesn't keep me from being royally ticked!

First I’ll start by saying it’s possible that an Administrator from Providence started this rumor to gauge its fans base willingness to embrace KE.

I’ll admit, I started feeling hopeful that KE was the guy to turn the program around. However, he still has a couple of red flags. In my view, his best players were Paulsen’s leftovers.

His in game coaching and play calling has been lackluster. And his teams can’t hit free throws.

I’m not saying this to trash KE. I hope he stays. But, it’s not the end of the world if he leaves either.

A few things...

First, it feels like the English rumors have gone quiet this morning. Not even hearing much about the SOURCES. Rothstein didn't even name drop him in his blog post about the Providence search. Maybe nothing, but whatever.

Next, it feels like Providence fans aren't sold on KE. Judging by the response online, they want someone more proven. Makes sense. They want to build on their success. They aren't impressed with KE's record so far.

Also I echo much of what's been said here. I can't help but feel as if Mason is in a very bad spot if KE leaves now. Perfect storm of no AD and essentially getting no real traction from his tenure. Zero postseason. Zero hype. Nothing that raises GMU's profile.

Finally, I get that KE is a great salesman. I never expected him to stick around for a decade. But judging by how he approached the gig, I figured we'd have him for 4 years and he was earnest about wanting to build something substantial. If he does go, it's going to suck. I fear we'll be banished back to basketball purgatory with no potential to escape anytime soon.

That's kind of my thinking. I just don't think the sky is falling. ...Can a roster be blown up by this? Absolutely, but can one be built just as quickly in the new landscape? Yes, it can. My concern is only that if something happens we need it to happen quickly so we can move quickly. This is not the L departure for many reasons, but that was also way later in the cycle (with no portal) which made it even more devastating. I think part of my optimism is that we've suffered for 10+ years at this point, so what's another 2 if we get the right guy?

Well to be fair I don't remember a time when any GMU team could hit free throws.
I agree that it feels like that. But in looking it up, Paulsen's 2017 team (Otis, Jaire, Marquis) averaged 75% (41st in Div 1). 74% the following year. Obviously I had to look it up.

Likely a function of having your best foul shooters getting fouled a lot. Duh!

This sucks for you guys, but at least you have a coach that others want.

Seriously, though, if you end up hiring Skinn, at least that's a result you can live with.

The absolute last thing on my mind right now is our free throw shooting lol.

To earlier posts, it’s more the timing than him actually leaving (if he does) because we all expected it to be a short stay. It would just really suck to have him bounce after accomplishing next to nothing.

Exactly! And CKE could put a stop to all of this and say he isn't leaving Mason yet because he hasn't accomplished what he came here to do. Part of me hopes he leaves so that we can stop with this crap every offseason. I understand someone wanting to take a step up (and more money) but not after two mediocre years unless it was to go back to Mizzou (which obviously isn't happening anytime soon) or to a blue blood.

ok I've had a night to chew on it. although Kimmy seems like a cool coach, I'm on the "let him go" to greener pastures bus.

We will get a $1 mil buyout (it probably pays off the Hewitt and DP buyouts for a cash-strapped Mason Athletic department). I don't think CKE has done enough at GMU to warrant an extension after 2 years. good recruiter, meh results.
