Welcome Jarred Reuter

Jarred reminds me of Jai Lewis because he's not an explosive athlete but is strong and crafty and knows how to use his body to create space to get off his shot.

He also has a reliable post move in the jump hook that's mostly unblockable.

Can't wait to see how our staff uses him. Any guy good enough to play for Tony Bennett can be successful in the A-10.
That is what I was thinking. He could be the second coming of the Great Jai Lewis or at least the really good Darryl Monroe.

Yes to everything that has been said about this kid.

Potential starting lineup in 18/19: Otis (Sr, 4 year starter), Jaire (Sr, 4 year starter), Reuter (RS Jr.), Wilson (RS So.) and Kier (Jr. 3 year starter).

Of course Newman, Relvao, Mar, Tamara, Calixte and Boyd will all have something to say about Wilson and Kier's spots, with Greene as the backup PG.

Gonna wear my shades all day because the future is so bright!

It's been a long time coming, but Mason finally has a good problem on its hands. Whos going to start because they all have so much potential. Love it. Pick up a pair of shades for me too!

Looks like a very solid pickup. Maybe I missed this earlier, but why did he transfer out of UVa? Was it just a matter of playing time? Has he been "recruited over"?

It wouldn't seem to be a system thing as my sense is that Paulsen and Bennett favor similar styles.

I've seen comments about some defensive deficiencies, which may have been the cause for limited minutes under Bennett. Also, as Jim alluded to, he likely struggled against the size and athleticism of ACC frontcourts.

There is no denying the talent is there, however. He was a 4-star recruit by ESPN standards, ranked 28th at his position. And he has decent size for the A10.

It appears that he lacked the agility/foot speed to consistently defend high ball screens, which isn't that surprising because Bennett requires his bigs to hedge hard and recover to prevent the ballhandler from getting a straight shot at the paint.

That's a difficult assignment against ACC-caliber guards, but if you don't defend, you don't play for Bennett.

Paulsen doesn't rely nearly as much on his bigs to contain the ball in high screen situations. Reuter should be used like Jalen was on both ends of the floor and I am confident he will be.

talked to a co-worker of mine who is a UVA Alumn & ticket holder, has seen Reuter play enough to give his two cents.

He's a big kid that is mature beyond his years, plays big, but got eaten alive in the ACC. Played very well against non-conference opponents and became a "bench" player as the season went along during conference play. He added that Reuter will thrive at Mason and has potential to dominate in the A10.

Heard the same from another UVa season ticket holder. He was hoping he would end up at Mason once he decided to transfer and was happy it worked out that way.

The only thing we know for sure is Otis and Jaire will be starters.. other than that everything seems up in the air to me. I am a big Newman fan, hoping he hits the gym hard this offseason and works on off the dribble stuff and defense. Kier will definitely improve, and I hope he improves a lot!

Grayer will begin as a starter but I'm not convinced he can't be knocked out by a new guy/Newman. If he starts the season like he ended the last one, he's an automatic. If he starts the the season the way he started the last one, it might not be so cut and dry. He had a rough OOC period last year.

I hate that condescending attitude from your co-worker. "Wasn't good enough for the almighty ACC but he will dominate your little league."

That is such a backhanded compliment. Basically saying the ACC is far superior to the A10. And it is. But I am telling you, in two years Mason is making a deep run!

My dream would for Mason to play UVA first round and knock them off.

Jaire is one of the top returning 3-point shooters in the A-10. He took a major leap forward in conference play and is far more likely to lead us in scoring the next two years than get knocked out of the lineup by one of our other guards.

The question for me is whether he starts at the 2 or 3.

He's not tall enough to play the 5 against some of the athletic freaks in the ACC. I highly doubt it had anything to do with being good enough.

Fortunately for us, it has been proven that a strong 6-7 player can do quite well at the 5 spot in the A-10.

^^^^^ THIS although I think it is gonna be pretty clear that he starts at the 3. Kier will probably start at 2, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if Newman has something to say about that. A lineup with Grayer and Boyd could work too, so maybe he does start at the 2. It is going to be a fun season nonetheless

I think someone answered me before, but are Grayer and Kier really the same height? It says so in the program, but Grayer seems a heck of a lot taller 2-3 inches than Kier. Maybe it looks that way because Kier is a stick and Grayer has become quite ripped
