I'm actually with you on this one. You're catching a face full of crap, but you haven't talked bad about anybody, in my opinion.

High School results/accolades/honors/etc mean precisely squadoosh the moment you enter college.

Great to see the fans that aren't blind homers talk

Sure hope the coaching staff doesn't lie to this kid like they did to others two years ago...

You know I like you, I really do, but man you always talk about others "being so offended" when you seem to be the most sensitive to what people think of your opinions. Yes you can have opinions, but others are also entitled to have opinions of YOUR opinions.

Sensitivity or "getting so offended" is a two way street and you my friend are driving dead center. But its okay, that's what we're here for, to get offended and every once in a while rejoice when we win or when vcu loses.

A new recruiting niche: Go after players who have zero high school accolades. As a bonus, there are a lot of them and we should have our pick.

Great to see a bunch of posters act like they're Bobby Knight and poo poo a kid who seems to be more of what this program needs.

We seem to have this tendency to have too many know-it-all pessimists masquerading as people who are just "keeping it real" as part of our fan base. I don't know if it's NOVA in general that breeds these people or what, but it's annoying.

I agree, I feel bad for his recruits. I really wonder how Copes would have done under any other coach.

On paper Hewitt recruited good teams with the exception of recruiting a true point guard. No disrespect to Allen, but he would of been better off being a SG.

He had a true point guard on the team in Corey Edwards and he ruined that kid too, one of the most instinctively best defenders we had as a freshman and would have, if we had a coaching staff that could develop talent, been a good point guard for this team.

He also recruited Marquis Moore...

I can't believe I forgot about Edwards.

I think its fair for a fan base to be genuinely excited for a recruit without being labeled a homer. The accolades Mar has received don't necessarily translate to success at Mason but it does indicate that he is talented and thus more likely to find success while at Mason. So yes, I'll be at the Capital Classic rooting for Mar because its the off season and I'm excited as f*** to see this kid in green and gold.

Whoa hold on Chris, he's not quite DeAndre Abram just yet...

FWIW, I wasn't poo pooing the kid at all. I'm ULTRA geeked about him. He looks like a pure stud to me. Further, I'm happy to celebrate his accomplishments. It's awesome that he won state titles :)

I just don't think that necessarily means anything translating to the college game. I tend to believe that winning state championships is much more about "being good at basketball" and "having good players as teammates" than it is about some sort of indefinable "winner's mentality".

Plenty of dudes have a "winner's mentality" until they get stuck with crappy teammates, and suddenly they're "empty stat's on a bad team" type guys.

That said, the guy above is right. This thread is to welcome and celebrate Goanar Mar, and I personally think he's going to tear it up here :)

Can't we all get along? Who's going to the Capital Classic? We should fill that lower level up with green and gold.

By George will be there asking questions and taking pictures. Hit us up if you're going, we're thinking about setting a meet-up location.

Yeah, it kind of is actually.

It's not a guarantee, but it is a barometer if they've been on a good team, received good coaching, played against good competition and had good success.

Or it could mean they played against weak compition. I wrestled in NJ arguably the second best wresting state outside of PA. In an open scrimmage we had a JV kid beat the state champion of Florida.

Sorry I keep playing devils advocate. I hate the off season it's so boring. I think Mar Is going to be a beast. I'm obviously not a scout, but he sure as hell looks like a good player
