So we have two recruits (so far) in the Class of 2017. One led his team to a Minnesota state title and the other made it to the state Final Four in Georgia.

It's so great for our program to keep adding winning players. They're far more likely to embrace the culture of team success before individual accolades.

Wasn't Patrick Holloway a 'winner' in HS? Ended up quitting and had terrible work ethic. HS success , especially in MN means nothing .

To a certain point you are correct, but when you are a DI Coach recruiting kids who are the best players and leaders of their team in 90+% of the cases, coming from a winning program usually is an indication of 1) the kids positive impact on his teammates as a player and a leader; and/or 2) that the kid comes from a culture of winning.

Many many coaches look for this. Even more so in basketball because one player can truly dominate a game.

Hewitt installed a selfish, me first, lackadaisical approach to his teams. You could see it even in the tiny clips they showed of his practices (when I saw a Hewitt practice, that's when I got really concerned about his coaching). There was nothing serious going on there. Holloway was a senior when Paulsen was hired and the damage had already been done.

Had Holloway played under a Larranaga or a Paulsen for four years, career here would have been much different.

I agree, I feel bad for his recruits. I really wonder how Copes would have done under any other coach.

On paper Hewitt recruited good teams with the exception of recruiting a true point guard. No disrespect to Allen, but he would of been better off being a SG.

My point is all these recruits are good high school players who are on winning teams. Not exactly a barometer for future DI success. I saw pictures of Erik Copes holding trophies too, who cares?

First off, Copes was not even the leading scorer on his HS team.

Second, there is a difference between winning teams and FOUR straight State Championships where Mar was the main producer. It means Mar's production was with a purpose: to win games, not just pad your stats to help your value on the recruiting market.

No, High School success does not automatically mean college success but to compare anything to what that idiot Hewitt and his pimp TOC did to this program, to Mason, at this point, is just f**king stupid.

Hewitt probably single handedly ruined 4 or maybe even 5 player's college careers (including Holloway's) that had huge potential. He gave no direction, had no system, no discipline and had no long term talent development plan. Just look at what Paulsen did for Marquise and Jalen in just TWO years.

Honestly TOC should be ashamed of what he did to this program and athletes. But in these modern times, shame is a dying concept.

Speak for yourself, I have plenty of hope. I said a thousand times I thought we should of had a successful season and we did. I'm super excited for next season. Especially if we can get another big. I think Mason will finish top 5 in the league.

You know I like you, I really do, but man you always talk about others "being so offended" when you seem to be the most sensitive to what people think of your opinions. Yes you can have opinions, but others are also entitled to have opinions of YOUR opinions.

Sensitivity or "getting so offended" is a two way street and you my friend are driving dead center. But its okay, that's what we're here for, to get offended and every once in a while rejoice when we win or when vcu loses.

I'm actually with you on this one. You're catching a face full of crap, but you haven't talked bad about anybody, in my opinion.

High School results/accolades/honors/etc mean precisely squadoosh the moment you enter college.

Then you fools post on his thread, oh that doesn't mean it'll translate in college..... Go make and post on another thread called "I'm depressed". Actually choose another team to be sad about.
