Almost like you read my mind lolOverpriced, smells like urine, aggressive panhandlers everywhere, and a general unpleasantness from the residents by chance?

I love St Louis. I also love Memphis. Both great cities with lots to do.
Some of you need to get out more.
Both have sections of town that are nice to visit - Memphis, in particular, has Beale St., Gibson factory, Sun Studios, mud island, Grizzlies etc.
To say it's a great city is a bit of a stretch. It had to vote it's school district out of existence because of its inability to educate children despite being the highest paid teachers in the state, it has a long and embarrassing history of political corruption and it has some of the most dangerous parts of town in the country.
Yeah, well... when I go down to Memphis for the weekend, I'm not hanging out in the schools, I'm normally on Beale, at a Griz or Redbirds game. Quick trip to Tunica for some table games. The people have always been friendly and the food is outstanding.
I'm pretty sure every decent size city in America has its sh!thole spots.
Every city is great to visit, even most small ones (Iowa City is pretty cool for a weekend, so long as you aren't going in January).
Agreed. Every city has a unique feel to it and most are really cool to visit. In 2003 I went on a 3 month tour of the country visiting 35 US States. One of the funnest, most memorable trips of my life (And I've quite the world traveler).
The diversity of landscapes and micro cultures in this country are truly amazing.
And even though, I had a great time, I really began to appreciate the Northern Virginia area and realized what a great place it really is to live and work.
Me, the Mrs and the 2 year old took a year off in 2007 and did the RV thing across the lower 48.
We came to realize what an soul less rat race NoVa was to live and work in compared to other areas we visited across the country. Other than Mason games, there isn't anything I miss.
I still love to visit....but no need to live in it.....

To each their own. Most of my friends feel this way about NOVA as well.
The things most people hate about NOVA is what I like about it. I enjoy not having to conform to a "local culture". You can be who you want be and no one really bothers each other.
Of course most other cities have that too, but in NOVA, everyone has jobs to go to the next day so you don't end up seeing as many "weirdos" and vagabonds than other places.
I love to travel alot. But I always love coming back home.
Lack of losers. Ive lived all over this fine country, and the thing about living in Northern Virginia is that pretty much no matter where you go if you strike up a random conversation the odds are it's going to be with somebody who has a brain in their head. It's the lack of a culture I don't miss. Some cities just have a vibe - how would you define the NoVa vibe? Urban sprawl?
Idk what this convo has to do with Gonar.... But basically I think those that complain about NoVa come from one of two groups.
1st group- lived in NoVa their whole life, and are just tired of it. Understandable.
2nd group- sell outs. They came to NoVa because they sold out and accepted a job that paid them a lot of money. Doesn't sound to bad, but these people tend to complain because they thought money was going to bring them happiness and it didn't. go figure.
NoVa has so much to offer, I don't understand why people complain. So much history right around the corner in DC. everything is free....
Besides DC there is Great Falls for nature lovers, Old Town Alexandria if you want great food. Wolf trap, Jiffy lube for music. Countless breweries and wineries. idk the list goes on and on.
Ummm, nothing. The boards suck during the spring and summer.Idk what this convo has to do with Gonar....
