I urge anyone concerned about the future of Mason basketball under Paul Hewitt to voice their concerns to the AD. Even if you aren't pulling your support or cancelling your season tickets, let him know in as specific terms as you can where your concerns lie with Hewitt at the helm.

I'd urge them to voice concerns about the AD to the administration, as well. TOC is making $275K/yr, which is higher than the salaries of the other 3 public A-10 schools. I'm not sure one could justify him being paid more than the ADs of UMASS or URI (who both have football in their programs) or to be making $80K more than vcu's AD, but he is, and I'm having trouble understanding why we'd continue to overpay an AD who has made many questionable decisions over the past 3-4 years.

I sent an email the other day to the AD and voiced my concerns about the direction of the program in regards to coaching. I wasnt offensive, whiny, or anything....just pointed out exact worries and concerns, and that I cant continue to financially support as long as Hewitt is involved, as I will donate to another area.

I got this back "Thank you for taking the time to email me".

Do you have a copy of that email? Would you mind sharing it with us? I would be interested in reading it.

In terms of the response: That's it? Nothing more?

Edit: Actually is was "thank you for taking the time to contact me" .

What exactly would you expect in addition to that, a voucher for a free meal at Johnson Center food court? I'd rather get a short response that was most likely written by the AD rather than a canned response with a bunch of lip service.

Kudos to P49 for voicing his disapproval in a respectful manner.

I also wanted to convey I wasnt being unreasonable, and explained very well that I fully understand constraints on the AD in regards to money, or "political" and that they can not always act immediately or as they wish...and ultimately Im such a small piece of it all that my opinion hardly matters...but I just wanted to voice it none the less.

But in regards to the reply. I sent an email some time during last season voicing about the same concerns, and actually got a few paragraphs back from the AD...which is why I was a little surprised.

Who in the AD did you email? TOC?

I sent it to TOCs address. The only other time I have emailed him, I recieved a well thought out reply and it was a good exchange.

Interesting. That is disappointing, I can definitely agree with you.

He might be inundated with complaints since the season just ended though? Not an excuse, but a mere thought.

Exactly, Im sure he is recieving a good bit of emails similar to mine and probably more heated as well. So while it was a bit dissapointing, Im not too surprised about it....just assuming hes been getting alot of the same stuff lately.

Its actually a good sign. A lengthy well thought out response would indicate he's not getting a lot of e-mails regarding Hewitt.

As Brian can attest by the cold shoulder he's received at games, these boards are monitored pretty closely by the athletic program. I'm sure they are savvy enough to realize when somebody is writing with passion or if they are just tagging along as part of some message board campaign (or a combination of the two).

This is why I would suggest those who are inclined to speak their mind to do so by following P49's lead. Introduce yourself, tell him when you graduated, mention how long you've been a season-ticket holder and donor, and detail why you are upset with the direction of the program.

You're not going to be taken seriously if you resort to the sophomoric name-calling seen here (Bozo, Blewitt, etc.). P49 might not have gotten as long of a response as he wanted, but I assure you it's longer than what some people are getting.

Well if they monitor the boards, then they read this post too and will not take any e-mail regarding Hewitt seriously.

And just in case TOC is reading this: f**k YOU!

First, some of the positives:

(1) Mason joined a preeminent men's basketball conference; and
(2) So far in its first year in the A10, Mason has won team championships in men's soccer and women's indoor track and field, and an individual championship in women's cross country.

Now, some of the negatives:

(1) The loss of Mason's home court advantage and the pervasive depression in the direction of the men's basketball program; and
(2) Envying the success of rivals GW & vcu.

While I hate to see Brian and other fans drop their support during the remainder of the Paul Hewitt era, I'm leaning towards renewing my season tickets for 1 more year. I'm hoping that Hewitt will hire a good lead assistant for next season. I believe that the current deficiencies are correctable and, that, giving Hewitt one more season is a reasonable approach.

The response I got from TOC led me to believe he was getting a lot if angry rants.

It's all relative. Whereas 100 emails might seem like a lot to us (and even that is probably overstating things), I bet the AD at a BCS school would receive thousands upon thousands of emails in a similar situation. Hewitt and TOC are fortunate we have no media outlets covering the program, because there really is no accountability after a season like this other than losing a few donors and season ticket holders like Brian and P49.

As much as we'd all like TOC and/or Cabrera to make a public statement about the program moving forward — especially if Hewitt is retained — it's not like they are feeling pressured to do so. I'm of the opinion that it would be wise for them to be proactive, but only time will tell if they agree.
