Is the team even back yet? Maybe Cabrera will just meet them on return and take Hewitt's Mason track suit and whistle from him....

Let him keep the whistle as a souvenir. The next coach won't want one with his loser funk all over it anyhow.

It's difficult to make the "they aren't A10 caliber argument" in 2011 when we don't join the A10 until 2013.[

Its not difficult to have told some of these guys that they don't fit the system. Corey Edwards was a legit PG for Hewitts system? Really? So he just gave up trying to beat vcu (still in CAA)? And what the hell did he see in Okajoke? That scholly could of gone to a PG that might of saved us all this pain. Either he doesn't have the balls to fix things or he's just an idiot. I'd say both. Either way, its been 3 years and the only PG he's signed, is one with no jumper. That's the best this "big time recruiter" could do? Aside from not being a capable in game coach, he's regressing on the recruiting front. These new kids coming in are unproven so I won't talk about them. When Hewitt got here the guys are his roster were new to him. We got 3 years of ugly ball. Not sure what the point is of keeping him around. The recruits are gonna leave whether you fire him today or next year. The money save is the biggest mistake to keep him, imo. Roster management = F. In game coaching = F. Two things we were led to believe were fixed, but obviously are leading to the demise of a once proud program.

Oh...and we got kids tranferring TO JMU. Let me see, which one of these recruits is better than Arledge? None. So why push him out? Another one ditching the team in Brooklyn. Unexplained playing time patterns for Gray. Nothing makes sense. On court or off.

These are really good points, GS. This might be the most reasoned post you've ever made.

If we're going to keep Hewitt, I'd love for Cabrera or TOC to publicly state their reasons for doing so.

They most likely wouldn't -- and their reasons would probably be BS anyhow -- but I'd be interested to know if they could provide any justification whatsoever.

Yea well, Im starting to get my senses back. Since day one of this hire they have been shot.

No way they say anything. Hewitt is here for another year, unfortunetly. And if they improve next year with Royal and Jenkins down low, and Patrick and Gray up top..... that's a good probabilty. Well then do you extend him? And do we cheer for a winless year? Like I've been saying, he's proved he can't manage a program and thats enough to fire him TODAY.

I'm of same mind. Whether they stay of go, no matter how good the players are Hewitt isn't going to get the most out of them anyway.

They're not going to improve next season. Sorry, but if that's the justification for keeping him, we're just delaying the inevitable.

Arledge to JMU - is that confirmed?

He and Jenkins w/Copes off the bench would have made a great backcourt combo. Way to have handled that situation Blewitt.

I dont think Arledge to JMU is happening, just a hunch. I say no more.

Because the stated reason of, "it would cost too much to fire him now, so going to wait until next season" isn't really that conducive to recruiting. That's of course if he's kept.

The fact is, there's not an unlimited budget and the coach eats up a mighty big chunk of it. Have to balance getting the dead money off the books and being able to spend more on a new coach, vs. what is the damage to the brand and revenue by what nearly everyone expects to be an even worse season next year. (I shudder typing those last 5 words)

Arledge was also supposedly spotted at High Point. Anyone in his position is going to visit a number of schools.

I think how Hewitt handled Arledge has as much to do with the teams poor performance as his overall coaching liabilities. I still think he lost this locker room back in December
