Jacksonville head coach Cliff Warren has been fired after 8 seasons with the team. They are dropping like flies! Your move, Mason.
Angry, is that you?
Don't you have business taxes or extensions to file?I'll never tell. Shouldn't you be drinking a Happy Hour Cherry Coke? Or are you prepping questions for the press conference?

Well, he does meet one of the qualifications Paul "Program Killer" Hewitt looks for in hiring an assistant coach, he has been fired.Warren was Hewitt's assistant at Siena & GT before he got the Jacksonville job. Hewitt needs to hire him as an assistant here.

On the Hewitt note, serious fans of the program realize it hasn't been as good as its record indicates over Hewitt's first two seasons, but it's hard to explain that to an outsider - or an outside coaching prospect who would wonder why we fired a coach after two 20-wins seasons.
So two "successful" seasons, followed by one bad season. My guess is outsiders would think it's too early to pull the trigger, and you risk losing some quality candidates. But after next season, Hewitt should be gone, and there will be little reason for anyone to wonder why.
I couldn't agree more...from the outside, it looks like we overreacted and fired a coach after one bad season, even though he won 20 each of the previous two years. Especially given the extenuating circumstances of the Arledge defection and move to a stronger conference. A prospective coach, with options, might not feel comfortable coaching at a program that is so quick to fire the coach under these circumstances. On the Hewitt note, serious fans of the program realize it hasn't been as good as its record indicates over Hewitt's first two seasons, but it's hard to explain that to an outsider - or an outside coaching prospect who would wonder why we fired a coach after two 20-wins seasons.

Again , its not really abiut this year. Its about poor roster management. Not having a pg is killing this program. Oh, we still dont have one. 3 years have gone by. You good waiting 1 or 2 more? Im not. Tell me this isnt a major error in judgement and a costly one.I couldn't agree more...from the outside, it looks like we overreacted and fired a coach after one bad season, even though he won 20 each of the previous two years. I agree...it's a cumulative thing and Hewitt should be fired. However, my point is that a prospective coach might not want to work for an organization that he perceives, strictly based on optics, to be trigger-happy.Again , its not really abiut this year. We will likely be hiring an assistant who we hope is ready to move up to the HC job. What hot young assistant wouldn't want a shot at coaching in a conference that got six teams in the NCAA tournament, at the largest university in Virginia, and at a university that actually has a name in the basketball world? If they are afraid of the job because we fired Blewitt after three years then we don't want them anyway.I agree...it's a cumulative thing and Hewitt should be fired. Good point...a prospective coach will do his homework and realize that it was not an impetuous or unfounded decision to fire Hewitt. We will likely be hiring an assistant who we hope is ready to move up to the HC job. Every tweet is about vcu and how loud they are and how many fans they have. Even during the UMASS game. Got to bode well for us. Glad ge's still there.El Presidente apparently likes what vcu is bringing to the Barclays Center. He is still there. Check out his Tweets. Maybe he really likes basketball. Maybe he will come back to Fairfax and clean house.
And they get to pay 2 years of buyout for less than what we'd have to pay for 1.Marshall has bought out the final two years of coach Tom Herrion's contract, it was announced on Friday.
The university will owe Herrion $600,000 for his final two years.
Herrion coached at Marshall for four seasons. His teams went to one NIT and one CIT.
Marshall lost to Old Dominion in the second round of the Conference USA tournament Wednesday and finished the season 11-22.
