We talk about whether or not the staff can recruit at this level or not. What if there was an A10 player draft tonight. A10 coaches could only draft players on current A10 rosters, no high school commitments. Use the current standings to determine draft order- LaSalle picks first, Davidson picks last. Where would our guys go in the draft?

If Paulsen is picking, we might end up with the exact same team.

Alright, I’m on the fire DP bandwagon. And if I can be converted, most anybody can. This is a large enough sample size to say that a veteran team should not play this way. I struggle to find a single player that has definitively improved. Some have regressed beyond a doubt.

This year may be the best time to say goodbye. Don’t love our recruits for next year. Don’t see many reasons to be optimistic about the future under DP.

Dave Paulsen - great person, outperformed expectations for a time, right coach to take a small step forward - not the coach that will take us back to the big dance.

Sounds good. Just make a 2 million dollar check out to George Mason Athletics and make it happen. :cigar:

Nice way for the team to come back. I think good things are ahead in league play as I’ve seen some good things. Just have to get consistent

I get your point but a 6-7 record with no good wins and bad looses sucks. After 39 years and especially the last four years under DP I am now apathetic and demoralized...

Everyone wishes we had those first three games back, but that’s not going to happen. It is what it is. However, there isn’t s team in the A-10 we can’t beat and it is wide open for the taking. This team, if it can scrap to a top 4 finish, will have a chance to cut the nets down and punch their ticket. There will be no at-large bid and no NIT consolation this year, so it is win the auto-bid or go home.

We shouldn’t have to make these adjustments 46 games into a “two-year season”.

Yes you do. When you change the defensive scheme from pack line to straight up man, its gonna cause some issues. However, last night it looked more like our help defense was solid. So maybe we are back to pack line D?

I feel and share your pain. I'm pretty much in the same boat. I thought we were beyond the days of declaring moral victories and being happy that we were close. I thought the goal was to be relevant on the national stage and not just in league play. If we don't show marked improvement in the A10 part of the schedule I'll have a tough decision to make about whether I continue to attend games and pay to support the team.

I've been attending games since my teens and have donated tens of thousands of dollars to the university. But, the end of my patience is near. I can feel it. I dropped the NFL about 5 years ago and discovered that there are all kinds of things to do on a Sunday afternoon when you aren't glued to a TV. I assume the same can be said of week nights and Saturday afternoons.

I have to admit it was a LOT of fun watching 15 minutes last night. I just wish we all saw performances like one in the second half more often. Jekyll and Hyde debate with myself right now.

I feel the same way you do about continuing to support the team...we have suffered for 7 years since Larranaga left!!!

Every year for a long time know we have had high expectations, perhaps misplaced, for a winning basketball program. No doubt the final four results, which now seemed light years ago set us up for this mindset. Nevertheless, we have all been brought back to reality. No doubt recent teams have played hard and tried their best. Nevertheless, Mason has not found the right formula for a winning tradition. I suppose it is based on the players we recruited or the coaches we have signed. But are we very different than most teams? Every team goes into the season thinking they are going to turn the corner and produce winning results. Alas, isn't this the problem with sports in general. It most often sets you up for disappointment.
But whats interesting is that win or lose I still look forward to watching George Mason basketball. I support these kids, wish them the best and hopefully some day (maybe this year) we will once again get that exhilarating feeling we all once had. I say go beat St. Joeseph. Looking forward to the game. As someone once told me, " you will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Honestly, having a coach like Larranaga and having so much success in a mostly dogshit league like the CAA covered for the fact that neither Mason’s former administration nor its donor base had made any of the investments necessary to compete consistently in a league where most of the schools are actively trying to win.

We jumped to one of the best basketball-only leagues in America because we knew the chance probably wasn’t coming again, but the truth is we were nowhere near ready. We were spoiled by being a big dog in the CAA, but we are still playing catch-up in the A-10.

You shouldn’t have to change (and change back?) the entire defensive scheme 46 games into a two-year season!

Not sure where this fits best, but on kenpom's "Luck" metric (best as I can tell, winning more or fewer games than would be predicted--somewhat a function of how you are doing in close games) we were #5 in Div 1 last year, but are #315 this year.

Anyone want to trade some of Boyd's buzzer beaters from last year for a game winning shot last night against K-State?

I watched several Mason games this year. We have to learn to keep up defensive intensity for 40 minutes even when shots don't fall.

Last nigbt, our defense intensity stared out great but collapsed when shots didn't fall.

It's a mental thing.
