Hewitt went 66-67 (.496)
DP is 51-58 (.468)

Hewitt was paid nearly double what DP is making.
Hewitt inherited a loaded team coming off a win in the NCAA Tournament. Paulsen inherited the absolute polar opposite. I'm not sure why we're still comparing the two.

Having said that, Paulsen's seat should no doubt become hot if this season completely unravels - talking like 4 or less conference wins.

To be fair, while they were coming off a NCAAT appearance, Hewitt lost Long to graduation and his best player, Hancocks, to transfer.

So, while the team had talent, it wasn't without its challenges and he did go 24-9 (14-4).

Comparing the two coaches is silly. Paulsen had a history of consistent winning. Hewitt had a history of being a joke in the ACC

Also Hewitt was a lame duck hire once Edwards arrived, he was never going to not go get his own guy especially when coach in place was losing.

Silly? One coached in the ACC and made an appearance in the National Championship game of the only division that counts in college basketball.

Yes, Hewitt was a lame duck coach once the beloved BBB came in, but how is that working out?

This.

At this point what is most mystifying to me is why you all keep responding to PMP or DJ3 as if there is any chance of them having the ability to comprehend and retain your rational responses. Your continued responses and debating is becoming more insane than their posts.

all 5 of the signed guys that Paulsen didn't/couldn't keep would have better than Danny Dixon, Kam Murrell (might be the worst scholarship player to don green in gold since 2010) and Abrams.... who knows what could have been with Paulsen's "great" coaching of actually talented players (Jackson, Porter, etc)

Asking because I don't know - do we have any insight that any of these players that left after Paulsen arrived wanted to stay, but Paulsen gave them the boot?

In my experience, keeping players that don't really want to be there is never good... doesn't work out very well. Everything I've seen said that the guys wanted out, but I'm wondering if I'm wrong?

I don't blame Paulsen for getting the guys he did at the beginning on such short notice. He didn't have many options. The ones that couldn't cut it are gone anyway.

I did think that our level of targets would increase more than it has. Not sure if that's because of our staff ability to recognize talent, their ability to sell our program... could be many different things and I don't have the answer. I do know when your competing against lower level teams for recruits, you might get a diamond in the rough every now and then and land a legit A10 starter (Otis), but more often than not you're probably going to get an average/below average A10 guy.

Recruitng good family guys that you wouldn't mind your daughter dating is a great thought. But ................ every once in a while a team needs a nut punching Tony Skinn or a "Take no shit from anyone" Ryan Pearson attitudes.

You cant play good cop bad cop if all the cops are good. Our Dao is out of balance.

I thought Edwards and Greene would help us in recruiting, ya know flash some super bowl rings around isn’t a bad thing. Have they been helping in that way?

I have no idea if they've been assisting or not. But I would think they wouldn't have much pull with a high school basketball player who most likely has no clue who they are.

I mean you could have Michael Jordan on your staff and it would be cool but it wouldn’t make most if not all good worthwhile players decide to sign with Southeast Missouri Central Northwest Valley State fighting Dung Beetles (Which we would probably go to OT with if we played them) GO SMCNVS!! Go Dung Beetles - "We may collect shit, but we don't take none!"

Me thinks they are there mainly there for fundraising and media exposure. Just a guess though.

Hewitt went to the national championship....

Plus Hewitt entered a really competitive A10 in 2013-14. Five teams made the tourney and 1 NIT.

DP goes 500 in a mediocre conference and he is immune to criticism.

The dude had Chris Bosh and couldn’t go over .500 in the ACC.

Can you imagine being a “fan” and this is all you care about? Must be nice

To be fair, since vcu has never been trash for as long as I’ve been following the team (Getting close to two decades) if we are beating vcu at least once a year we are good enough to win other games.

And come on, last year wasn’t a banner year, but you had to take extra pleasure in the way we beat JMU and how we stole a win in Richmond and really derailed vcu’s season.
