Survey about Mason basketball

I like how SSTN pretends to be making an informative post but in reality is just bragging that he's locked down a young (and probably hot) recent alum.

Well yeah ;)

Maybe GMUSSTN can compare the two links he received to see if they are the same, or unique:

If they are the same, I would think the link could be readily shared, through PMs, as we wouldn't want a bunch of vcu fans purposely mucking up the survey.

They are different, just checked.

I am waiting to see if my buddy, who sits next to me but is not a Mason alum, wants to take the survey. If not I'll give the link out to someone here.

Actually just clicked/compared, looks like it all takes you to the same place. Not sure if they went through the trouble of providing unique links or just coded the email so the links look randomly generated.

It takes you to the same place ("https://vovici.turnkeysurveyor.com/se.htm") after it has already saved the serialized information in the session. If you try and go to the link above directly it states:

We are unable to process your request or submission.

If you have not started your survey yet, please either click on your invitation link or copy and paste the entire URL into your browser.

If you have already started your survey, please use the back button to return to the previous page, update your answers if necessary, and proceed to the next page.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I fell into this trap last time, GS. I was convinced we needed to keep the momentum going by hiring a big name with head coaching experience. Coming off an NCAAT victory, I actually believed that we were too good of a program to hire an assistant who had to learn on the run. (I think my clinical diagnosis was delusions of grandeur.)

Four years later after a horrible hire (which I openly endorsed and defended), I don't want there to be any restrictions on the requirements to be our next coach. If he's an accomplished head coach at another school, that's great; if he's an assistant at a good program, I'm good with that, too.

And no more one person making the call. Edwards needs to hire a search firm and do his due diligence. Our next hire will determine his legacy at Mason, and I'm sure he doesn't want to be on the wrong side of history like his predecessor.
My biggest complaint about the last search was this. I totally agree with your methodology, Tom. Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them. No reason to limit the pool of candidates unnecessarily.

The other thing I would add is that, if and when Hewitt is relieved of his duties, all of us need to be patient. This needs to be a thorough process and it WILL take time.

If I could point to, amongst others, one virtue on here, its everyone, except me and one or two others, have been very patient per the product on the floor. Golf clap to you all.

BUT we cannot have a repeat of UNCW's search when they fired a coach mid season but were one of the last to hire and they ended up with Buzz Peterson who one could argue is every bit as bad a coach as the Fluffer.

If Edwards turns out to be as inept at operating a Division I athletic department at that idiot Kelly Mehrtens, we're all doomed no matter who the coach is.

So if this tells y'all anything...
Hewitt and some of the basketball team were having lunch at Southside (the main dining hall) and exactly zero people gave a damn.

That is sad. It was nice when the coach and players were rock stars on campus
Yeah, sad is definitely a way to describe it.
I live down the hall from Porter and Mayimba and also see Jackson and Lockett walking around the building from time to time and nobody bats an eye

I guess I am confused. These are just college students who play basketball, right? I know my time at Mason predates the Final Four but it isn't like any of them have a shot at the NBA. I thought the original point was that people saw Hewitt eating with team and he was surprised no one yelled FIRE PAUL HEWITT NOW!

I had history my Freshman year with Will Thomas when he was a senior. Apparently he is probably the smartest person ever, he just sat in the back with his hood up and beats headphones on…..and still passed lol.

Good times, back when people used to high five and be excited to see the coach or players around campus. Oh the days.

Yeah back in my day Jemel Buck and Donald Ross would show up to our suite when pizza arrived and girls showed up...and then would either play with the girls or the Nintendo all night....

So sad.

I respect what Will did for us, removed.

:(

I think I'd actually be more likely to stop and talk to them now, than back when we were winning all the time.

I remember having Rob Anderson in a lot of my classes, was a really nice guy. One class he asked the teacher if he could be excused from the next class because he had a game and the teacher asked him for a note from his coach. He was wearing a basketball warmup suit, was 6'6, and was on the cover of the current edition of the Broadside for our upset win at Ole Miss. SMH.

Consider yourself lucky that there are Mason professors who evidently couldn't care less about Mason men's basketball. When I was at Penn State and at least one football player was in my class in the fall, the professor felt compelled to waste time discussing the football program.

This wasn't required when you were an undergrad? We have forms now, given at the beginning of the semester, of all the dates of all the away games -- student athletes are encouraged to take classes that will least conflict with their schedule. In fact, I have to tell students who will miss at least four classes due to games to drop my class and pick another one.
