Searching for Vaughn Gray

Gray had worked his way into the starting line up before being suspended for 3 games at the beginning of his sophomore season. He has never been another chance.

I have to think at this point if Gray was going to be a regular contributor on this team he would be playing more regularly at this point. I hope I'm wrong because I still think the potential could be there but a lot of time has passed.

It certainly appeared to me in watching today's scrimmage that the Patriots need Vaughn Gray's perimeter shooting this season.

Yes--today at least he appeared to be in rhythm and my sense was that he made a fair share of his 3's. More than anyone else at least.

He performed very well in practices in previous years. Several eye witness accounts have him putting on the best offensive performance in practices last year.

Some guys are good practice players, but not game players. Hopefully all the guys on the roster will be great game players.

He was never given a chance to settle in. Remember how long it took Arledge to settle into his roll (and he only got that kind of an extended chance due to injuries).

I'm not saying Gray necessarily could have been a monster player for us, but he seems to have all the tools to be successful given the chance.

Gray looked comfortable and able when he did get chances early on...I would expect that he wouldnt all of the sudden lose that.

Like he did after the beginning of last season?

As he did for 2011-12 when he was getting 12 minutes a game and shooting about 41% from 3. When everybody was excited about him and what he could do for us.....until the Hewitt relationship derailed that.

For those of you that have watched some of the scrimmage and/or practices, how was Copes in terms of fouling? Last year, the couple times I saw him in practice, he was fouling constantly, but not being called out on it, so it was no wonder that it translated into quick fouls in the games. Was there any improvement on that front?

I was wondering that too. Especially vs Gtown.

1-6 FGs (1-5 3 Pt. FGs) in 14 minutes against CORN. I'm sure he'll light it up today vs. PRIN...

It's good to see Vaughn Gray back in the rotation. But, it's too bad that his brother Virgil is no longer posting to this thread.

While we loved Virgil posting here, I am sure Vaughn did not like it. Hard enough to get playing time without having your brother criticizing the coach on a message board. Maybe he will come back under a new name. I just hope Tom doesn't start calling him Hugh. :chuckle:

Or when his brother graduates. We could always use more posters with deep basketball knowledge.

The secret weapon is 6-21 from the field and 1-7 at the line so far.
