Searching for Vaughn Gray

I wont lie, Corey is frustrating as hell and has his own short comings.....but his ability to hit jumpers or a 3 is a nice difference between him and Moore. Moore can essentially guard himself out on the wing.

Has Hewitt also forgotten about Corey Edwards, or is he injured?

With Hewitt, either option has to be considered equally probable.

He's clearly forgotten Okoloji exists. Betcha Hewitt remembers that he's sitting down there just in time to put him in the game cold during a crucial sequence in the SLU game.

Same thing I said weeks ago about Moore being on the floor.... Teams r playing him at the foul line because he is absolutely no threat... And giving Vaughn literally one trip up n down the floor is a head game no one knows...

Maybe if we could borrow Dr. Brundle's transportation pods and put Corey and Moore into the same one, their DNA will merge and we can come out with a real PG.

Who knows anymore man. I was glad to see him get some run, and then in a second during a timeout he doesnt come back on the floor. When he was in, his defense was fine...he called out a switch to another player and stuck to his man.

With Holloway struggling, I dont know why VG didnt get much more run. Oh wait I do...Hewitt has all these better options........or something like that.

Teams pretty much have Holloway figured out that he can't put it on the floor unless it's to the rim for a floater against a close-out... And with the seniors leaving, he will be the main focus next year... Then what's hewitt's plan for another scoring option? I always felt Vaughn and Pat on the floor same time is a unique combo... One set shooter and one athletic shooter that can create or attack...

I feel the same way. A few of our guys needs to try and add some assets to their game, mainly Holloway and Moore or else we have serious issues next year on top of the already serious issues that exist.

I also would have agreed that Vaughn and Holloway would have gone nice with eachother, but I guess we will never have the chance of seeing how that works out.

Its irritating as hell.....we are a not nearly a good enough team to where we can have our coach have his personal issues toward a player effecting the on court decisions about guys who can help us.

We are going to need someone who can drive into the lane from the wing with both Sherrod and Allen leaving.

Here are the following candidates:

1) Jenkins: has shown he can handle, but is no threat to hit from the outside. So he either has to find his range or he's a better for for PF

2) Royal: has the range and the length Hewitt likes, but I fear he will be way to slow trying to guard opposing small forwards and is a better fit as a face-up PF

3) Mayimba, Lockett and Jackson: all complete unknowns.

4) Gray: has the range and first step to get past defenders and from what little I've seen can finish in traffic if given the opportunity. Seems like the perfect fit for next year as we transition our freshman. But can he change or improve on whatever it is Hewitt sees in him he doesn't like? Who knows.

We are f*cked beyond belief next year.

Unfortunately for Hewitt's system, it seems like our strength might shift from the backcourt to the frontcourt next season. But will Hewitt a) play Jenkins and Royal together? and B) will he find a way to get the ball into their hands?

Royal and Marko can both hit the 3 and Jenkins can take bigger players off the dribble so they won't necessarily have to all be low post touches (although, good things happen when a player gets the ball in deep post position).

Edwards isn't hurt. He's out there for warm ups, etc going full speed. Doesn't seem like a guy trying to get back from injury would be out there for everything and not getting looked at/evaluated by the trainer would be.

AO hasn't seen the floor since his remarkable minutes vs St Louis. Those are now going to Gray it seems. I'd like Gray to get 7-10 min/game, but with Allen and Wright playing so well as of late and Holloway getting his 20-25 most nights, along with Moore, there doesn't seem to be enough time to do that.

120 guard minutes and 65ish of those each night go to Wright/Allen. Another 25ish go to Moore each night (sometimes even higher) so that leaves 30 minutes to split between Pat and VG. it's about a 25-5 split. I wish it were more like 20-10 or even 15-15 some nights.

What? I can remember Marko hitting only a handful this season. His 3 pt percentage must be the worst in all of Div 1.

He's struggling to be sure, but he can hit that shot if his feet are set when he catches the ball. Vlad struggled with his long range shot here as well before transferring and becoming much more effective at AU.

I think Hewitt asks his players to play too fast relative to their athleticism and it's hurting guys like Marko.

I dont give a shit if Hewitt signs 3 all americans. He will find a way to lose games, drag us into the valley of bball death, and do little about it. Damn shame b/c i like him as person.

What does former Patriots Deon Cooper and Makan Konate have in common with Vaughn Gray? None of them started a game in their first 3 seasons at Mason.

In their senior season, Cooper started 3 games (the first 2 games and Senior Night), while Konate started on Senior Night. Assuming that Vaughn Gray will return for his senior season, isn't time to see what he can do as a starter (preferably prior to Senior Night)?

A thousand times Yes.

Vaughn Gray has more basketball talent than Cooper and Konate combined ... crazy that he's still at Mason considering the way his career has unfolded.

I think he's in a tough spot for starting, unless Hewitt wants to go bigger at the 2. I think he's going to want to start Jenkins and Royal together and I don't see either as a 5.

Of course it's all speculation at the point, but how about going:

PG: Moore
SG: Holloway
SF: Gray
PF: Jenkins
C: Royal

I have a feeling that's a pretty weak defensive lineup, but I bet they could fill it up offensively.
