How about Ron Hunter? He's done really well with Ga State...also a very dynamic, charismatic guy....kinda the anti Hewitt.
Hunter is not polished enough for me. If you have seen interviews, you know what I mean

BREAKING: The University of Alabama has fired head coach Anthony Grant, per The Tuscaloosa News' sources. Details at http://tidesports.com.
He's rough around the edges, but that doesn't bother me that much. It's sort of the other side of the coin of Hewitt's cerebral aloofness we've had for the last four years.
As long as he gets it done on the court and runs a clean program, who cares how he is in interviews?
I heard he actually tore his achilles while celebrating Ga. St.'s win today.

Will the Alabama jet fly him out of town since it flew him in?
And...this just locked up Shaka for life. Two previous successful coaches at vcu got fired at their "upgrade jobs." For what he is making...why bother moving?
First time poster to your forum. I'm a vcu fan but also a GMU fan. (I spent 2 years at GMU before I transferred to vcu and finished my degree.) I also grew up near the GMU campus when Paul Westphal was the head coach. I knew the basketball program fell off when Jim Larranaga left. As a vcu alumni, trust me you may want to petition to hire Coach Anthony Grant. While coach Shaka Smart tends to stress defense and perimeter shooting, coach Anthony Grant was a well balanced overall coach on both sides of the court. Both coach Smart and coach Grant are part of the coaching tree of Univ. of Florida's coach Billy Donovan. Even though coach Grant left vcu to the SEC conference for the money, I will always thank him for that upset of Duke in the 2007 March Madness. If we want to make the Atlantic 10 a serious basketball conference to the national eye, the opponent familiarity, and wanted the job security, coach Anthony Grant would be the smart hire.
