Would take Shaver in a heart beat. He is consistent, well organized and plays good team ball on both ends of the court. I think the system he runs can take average athletes and make them better, if he gets a stud or two every few years all the better.

And let's not forget that he wouldn't be hampered by the very strict academic requirements at Mason that he's had to abide by at W&M. He's been able to recruit very good players despite a pretty sizable disadvantage. (To me, this is the main reason he hasn't been to the NCAAT yet. If W&M played in the Ivy League, they probably would have made several appearances under Shaver.)

I'm still bitter that he pretty much stole Danny Sumner (Paul VI) and Marcus Thornton (MD) out from under us. I'm not sure how aggressively Coach L pursued either one, but they both should have ended up in a different shade of green.

Tony Shaver would be great. Twice as good as Cherry, 4 Times betters than Dan Hurley and would be one the most respected guys in the league. In addition, he's a unc guy, so our team would have an easy class schedule...lol kidding.

Another interesting name:

Steve Prohm who is head coach of Murray State. According to his Wikipedia he is a native of Vienna VA.

Would we be able to pay enough to get Prohm? He has a pretty sweet gig at Murray State, he's proving he can win without Billy Kennedy's players and I doubt he'd leave for anything less than a large raise.

That said, if we can afford him, he should be right up there with anyone who has been mentioned. Very very good coach.

I quickly googled around and saw that he earns about 300k and has a contract through 2018. The info was a bit dated but I'd have to think he'd be affordable for Mason.

Murray State isn't going to be the competition for his services.

Right, but I was saying at the salary he's making there, he's not leaving for $450K. If we want him, we're gonna have to shell out Hewitt bucks or more.

If one of you were Prohm, you'd rather not coach in a multiple bid league for 200k more?

Its a matter of if he wants to go go to a multiple bid league for 200k more, or a major multiple bid league (like a Big Ten, SEC, or ACC school) for 1 million base+. I found that apparently LSU was interested him at some point.

We'll see. The name just dawned on me this morning and I thought it would be a good suggestion. He may not even be interested in leaving Murray State.

If Murray makes it back to the NCAAs this season, he's going to be able to coach in a multiple-bid league AND get a heck of a lot more than a $200K raise.

AC and BE had better be prepared to open the wallet if they want Prohm.

So this raises another question. How much will we pay? Remember, we went cheap once and now we drink from the floor.
