Name the next head coach (a GMUJim tribute album)

I would love an article like this to come out about Mason one day: http://nypost.com/2015/02/08/how-relentless-dan-hurley-has-rescued-rhode-island/

One advantage Mason has is the challenge the new coach faces. I love this quote from Dan in the article, "The season before the 42-year-old Hurley took over, the Rams were 7-24. 'That was incredibly appealing to me as a competitor,' he said." A Dan/Bob Hurley rivalry in the A10 would be alright with me.

Considering our current record, our next coach may be able to say the same thing.

Hopefully whoever it is gets the program turned around as quickly as Hurley has rebuilt Rhody.

Unless Seton Hall calls Danny up. They are looking like a.train wreck lately.

No offense to Brownell, but I sincerely hope Edwards institutes a new rule: No more hiring coaches on their way down the ladder.

We've done it twice and it has failed miserably both times.
Yeah, but 1) we remember what Brownell teams look like. Tough as nails. A team you can root for.
2) I think his style is conducive to winning at the mid-major level. I get that people would probably shit a brick, but I'd be perfectly with that hire. He's young enough, he's good enough, and he coaches a style I can get behind.

I could be wrong Herndon -- there are many people who follow recruiting more closely than I do -- but I don't see his old-school approach as a great draw for kids who prefer the open-court style of today's AAU.

Given the increased emphasis on freedom of movement, I wonder how successful those old UNCW teams would be with all the bumping and hand-checking they used to do.

Not to mention, I'd really rather not hire another failed ACC retread. Been there, done that, got the "Fire Paul Hewitt" T-shirt.

Whoa. Look at Will Brown and Albany in the America East. 18-7. 12-0 in the America East. No idea if he'd come to GMU. Just putting the name out there. He seems to have had had consistent success, but he ain't exactly a spring chicken.

Holy sh*t......43 is old?

Good thing you weren't consulting when Mason hired a 48yo Larranaga...........

I stand corrected. 43 sounds good to me. He may be a bit older than others mentioned here. I like his track record though.

Hey I think he is intriguing and would research a guy like that. He's been a head coach for awhile...with moderate success. Ups and downs and not the "flavor of the month."

Much like the ol OCM....HC long enough to survive, develop his way and seasoned enough to try to take his skills to the next level of coaching, without having to learn how to be a head coach at the same time.

Hewitt might have been a good coach.....but I really think he needed time off before getting back in the pool so fast.......
