Now watching Dayton at vcu. 64-63 Flyers with 6 minutes left. Who should I root for? Rooting for vcu
is against my religion, but Dayton hasn't lost in conference. Maybe I'll change the channel.

I love Mason more than I hate vcu. I'm rooting for vcu to have a 4 way tie for first place. We must win the conference to have any hope of at least an NIT invite.

Currently 4-1.

To get to 12-6 they’d have to go 8-5 the rest of the way. Let’s see them do it. :cigar:

Looking at the schedule, if we can get to 6-3 in the first half of the schedule, I like our chances at going 7-2 the rest of the way. 13-5 is possible here, maybe even 14-4 if we can snag an unexpected road win against Dayton, SLU, or vcu. But I don't want to get too ahead of my own expectations.

I dont see us losing many games. Unless we shoot like we did vs Davidson then its possible but even in that game our defense shut them down to where we had a chance to win. Defense wins ships!

I agree. They absolutely need to take 2 of the next 3 going into the game against vcu, which looks like a top tier battle. Doing that would have them at 6-2 going into that game.

One game at a time one game at a time one game at a time (its hard though)

I was rooting for Dayton because 1) they were playing vcu, but more so because 2) I want there to be separation between the top 4 teams and everyone else.

I think the odds of us winning regular season are significantly less than us being top 4, so top 4 and the double bye is going to be what I'm rooting for, which will give us a solid shot and cutting down the nets in Brooklyn!

With vcu and Duquesne pulling out wins last night, we have 6 teams with one loss or less, instead of 4.

As of this morning, Kenpom has us ranked as #114 in the country, based on the differential (+5.70) between our offensive efficiency (104.9) and our defensive efficiency (99.2). Our worst ranking during the year was #170 after the Vermont loss. Since then, it has been a pretty steady climb up the ladder with the biggest jumps after the St. Joe's and URI wins on the road.

Kenpom also provides efficiency ratings and rankings based on just conference play. We're currently tied for first in the conference with Dayton for offensive efficiency (107.1) and are second behind Davidson in defensive efficiency (90.2).

That yields a differential of +16.9 which is best in the conference (Dayton is second with +11.2). To carry this out further, if we had that differential across ALL our games this season, we'd currently be ranked #33 nationally, between NC State and Indiana!

I know, I know, this 16.9 differential is based on a small sample size and likely inflated by the fact that we have yet to play any of the 3 strongest teams in the conference (Dayton, vcu, and St. Louis) with 3 of those 4 games on the road where we currently are 5-8 pt underdogs. Still, it's fun to take a "green and gold" glasses view on where we are!

Also wanted Dayton to win to start creating separation at the top. Then we’d have the chance to also bury vcu if we can sweep them. :)

I think the next two Saturdays will be telling. They are obvious trap games at home. Losing either of those is worse than dropping both road games to Dayton and vcu and will likely keep us out of the top 4.

we need to take at least 1 of the three road games against Dayton vcu and SLU. Ideally either SLU or Dayton for tiebreak and split with vcu.

Let’s hope the team doesn’t look ahead like us.

Got some exciting news (at least we think so) we have launched our new podcast series - Hey10 featuring, your favorite, Petey Buckets and Grant Labedz from A10Talk. This series will strictly be about A10 hoops, brought to you by two guys who pay way too much attention to our conference. We will be dropping new episodes every Sunday, take a listen to EP: 1 - https://giantkiller.co/ByGeorge/2019/01/20/hey10-ep-1/

Excuse some of the audio issues for now, still working out some kinks.

Other news - we’re also in progress of starting two more new series as well -

The Ryan and Domcast - A couple of involved students talking Mason hoops, will include some Woman’s B-ball as well and campus life.

Fax Only - Bryan of BG and Casey of SlackiBrown.com talking everything Fairfax.

All shows will stream through ByGeorgeGMU on your podcast app. We appreciate all our subscribers! #BGPodcastNetwork

Posted this in Dayton thread but it belongs here...

I know SLU was/is the favorite, they're talented, and they had a decent OOC, but they have not played us, Davidson, vcu or Dayton. The only two teams they've played in the top HALF of the conference are URI and Duq. They just lost to Duq and beat URI by 7. At home. As a reminder, we blew RI out on the road.

In fact, the only double digit win in conference was an 11 pt. home win over St. Joe. We beat them by 25. On the road.

We have 4 common opponents. All wins for both squads. Their margin of victory was 24. Ours was 50.

I know we have a lot of time to blow this season, and some teams we don't match up really well with, but are we sure they are the class of the conference?
