Our players aren’t the problem tonight. The talent is there at most spots. Just can’t figure out a way to play to our own strengths and show it.

I only agree with this if you don't think AJ is responsible for his own shot selection. He came into tonight shooting 9 of 36 on two point jumpers. That's impossibly bad and it probably got worse after tonight. If he was only taking these with the shot clock winding down I wouldn't care as much but since it's his favorite shot it's a massive problem. He misses 3 out of 4 and we never get offensive rebounds off of them either. Very ready for him to either go to the basket strong or pass it off so he never takes one of those again.

and most of the shots aren’t even close. Mostly airballs or barely hit the rim.

Hartwell really shouldn't be in the game when they need to find stops...put him in when the second line comes in for a few minutes to see if you can get him going for a few 3s and then pull him. It's ridiculous that he's been out there two games in a row and completely unable to guard whoever they're asking him to guard.

He also never knows when to help out from the weak side either. He stood there and admired tonight.

All the more tilting. There's no reason at all for anyone to think this might be a good shot. Not like he used to hit a bunch of them and he's in a funk. F*cking infuriating this is probably what he worked on all summer when we need him stepping out for set 3s or going strong in the post.

Notes on tonight's vcu game:
  • Just go to the basket—stop waiting for another player to do it
  • There was only one vcu fan at the game—he was the only attendee who went home happy
  • The officiating was abosulutely HORRIBLE—especially watching the refs looking at each other awaiting for one of them to blow his whistle as AJ gets clobbered
  • To the two d¡ckheads in section 102 or maybe 103 who shouted, "Fire Paulsen!" during the middle of a comeback attempt: you contemptable Mason fans—that particular moment is NOT the time to express your opinion on the future employment of Mason's coach... IDIOTS!!

Yelled it all game. If you had your hearing aids on and turned up you might have heard that. Also people not in my group yelled it.

about 15 vcu fans in our section (1 little kid particularly annoying)

will be sitting in same seats next game come say hello

I knew it was you... and probably TBlack. You are not helping the team.

You mean the team that has two players moms shitting on the coach on Twitter? My screaming totally making them play like shit.

I booed the ref a fair amount as well, I’m probably to blame for them not calling that AJ foul call.

tough life

I posted a rant on here during Hewitt about still supporting the team no matter what, because I saw it as salvageable. I saw Wichita State, and vcu, and Davidson, and other mids who got good at the same time we did, traveled the path we blazed, and then left us behind. I believed we, as fans, were the key to making it happen here. Most of those other teams had such a better fan base who demanded so much more.

Now I just don't care. Show up, don't show up, chant fire Paulson. Who gives a shit. You are not hurting the team as long as you are not harassing the players. And even if you are hurting the team, who cares? Eff them all (except the players)

By the way, wanna talk about hurting the team? It has been oft reported on here that Paulsen publicly said our team doesn't "look the same" as other A10 teams and he needed to do a better job recruiting. How do you think that felt for the players who heard that, being told they're not good enough to compete in the A10 and he is trying in earnest to recruit over them?

XJ’s knee has to be bothering him still. He is just nowhere near the same player he was before his knee started bothering him last season. Or maybe it’s just the Paulsen regression.

Definitely has a bum wheel. Zero explosion, can’t get into the paint or to the rim, love his heart but we’re basically playing 4 on 5 offensively when he’s out there because he still can’t make a jumper.

If the coaches care about winning, they’ll play Kolek and Javon most of the guard minutes and live with neither being a natural PG ... they’re the best 2 guards on the roster by a mile.

This happened once after an A10 tournament loss in like year 3, when Paulsen mentioned that he needed some "horses" and that the team didnt' look like an A10 team. I haven't heard him talk like this since. Someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.

Since that time, he went out and upgraded athleticism at most positions, but the problem is that athleticism doesn't necessarily mean better talent or that he doesn't still have to coach them up to bridge any sort of talent deficiency.

Every day brings the same question: What are we doing here? If what ByGeorge says is true, and Brad has not intentions of letting Paulsen go, then what is our end goal? I'm sure the answer is something along the lines of "Build a Championship team, while excelling in the classroom, etc." but the actions; or lack there of, don't match. I would say that this program is falling into irrelevance, but the fact is that we are already there.

If we are not building with the intention and expectation of competing for a championship, then what is the point of even playing, and why should anyone give any time and/or money to this "cause". It brings no real joy.

The basketball program seems to be more concerned with politics than with winning basketball games.

More like, the Post has no desire to report local sports, only to use it to promote whatever messages they like/approve of.

It reminds me so much of Larranaga's Cuba what our great country is becoming.
