GIVING DAY 2023
Bad loss in Mason land so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy

yah you are. Mason should be further along in the rebuild. Plain and simple
You still can’t even spell the guy’s name right, yet he would somehow be the savior of our team. Can’t believe how low you think of Paulsen. Ever think that recruiting is more complicated than just putting it all on the head coach? Don’t expect a turn around this quickly. It’s going to take some time to fix our program. We needed a total overhaul when DP got here. Not just players, but the facilities, gameday atmosphere, everything. Look at the big picture - we have come a long way in a little over 2 years.

Sorry rebuilds don't need to take this long.

Pathetic 2nd half effort. But, as many have said, myself included, we are not capable of competing for 40 minutes. My friend and I could not comprehend the defensive philosophy tonight of switching so that Otis, at 5'9" ended up on Night at 6"9''more times than I care to remember. This loss is on Paulsen 100%.

Gave up 49 points to 2 players. Think a scouting report might have suggested we guard them?

Knight abused everyone who was guarding him.

From what I could watch since I had some technical difficulties it looked like they had a rough time on the screen and rolls and rotations especially in the final 10 minutes. Offensively they disappeared. I don't know if W&M adjusted something or they just decided to forget how to play basketball.

When Knight took Mar off the dribble at the top of the key, that was pretty much curtains in the second half.
Again, I'd rather have that happen than watch a 6'9" post up a 5'9" guard. At least make it harder to kick our a**.

They stopped getting stops and had to figure out W&M's reverse pack line defense (they packed the perimeter with defenders and left the paint wide open), which they never did. Why Boyd and Kier weren't cutting into the open spaces underneath the basket, I'm not sure.

A lot of the first half offense was predicated on getting stops/steals and then pushing the ball up the floor and getting to the rim or kicking it out to open shooters before W&M could set their defense completely. In the second half W&M found their shot and 3s started raining down out of the heavens.

I'm curious why Kier and Boyd weren't penetrating in the open spaces either. I know Boyd did on one occasion and missed a wild layup and Kier missed a short jumpshot. Just seems like they couldnt adjust on the fly, and that does takes maturity.

I do want to caution against the doom and gloom a little bit. This team lost two incredibly important starters from last season and are relying on a lot of inexperienced players.

Think of the 2009-2010 GMU team, which had just 1 senior and essentially started 2 juniors and 3 sophomores for most of the season (after Coach L finally decided to stop playing Louis Birdsong out of position). That team went 6-6 in the OOC and finished 17-15 and got blown out in a few inexplicable games (lost to Radford by 27, lost to GW by 17, lost to Northeastern by 25).

The next season pretty much the same team had the longest winning streak in the country and finished the regular season ranked 25 in the country.

What do you want them to do on screens? At some point you have to give props to William and Mary for the game plan
Fight through, work around, have a teammate give them a "window" to slip through. Captain Obvious if you know anything about the game.

Thankfully a comment on someone who actually watched the game and not DJ3 who had his feed cut out. I'm a huge Paulsen guy but he got out coached out of half time. W&M also had a lefty that seemingly did not miss. He was not one of the three guys we were told about in the gold room. Also @mkaufman1 you had three william and Mary fans in your seats and they were total boners.
