Funny how people are JUST now starting to realize now that the projections by almost everyone for this team to finish 10th or so in the A-10 with about 15-17 wins total is looking like a spot on prediction.

Still say we’ll be better than 10th, simply because the A-10 is a massive pile of suck this season and I believe in our guys.

Seriously, even coming off a terrible loss to W&M, have any of the following teams shown themselves to be CLEARLY superior to us:

Richmond
Duquesne
Fordham
UMass
GW
SLU
LaSalle
Saint Joe’s
Dayton

Not saying we will finish ahead of all of these teams, but I have seen nothing from them that says they are demonstrably better.

8th place sounds about right. Too bad the league wasn’t this awful last season, we might’ve had a shot at a top-4 spot.

Fwiw , Herring was an OCM recruit. Was going to bowling green but followed OCM here.

Don't listen to them Jim, they posted a picture of the A-10 trophy earlier this preseason as to say 'this is our year', they are completely clueless on realistic expectations for a program rebuild.
At least they are better than Ryan Kish at writing... way too optimistic and outwardly foolish on expectations though. We are not DUKE

Paulsen is who he is. He was like what our 4th choice when the others turned us down? Not sure why some thought we'd be raking in the four star recruits and looking like a conference power in year three. His way was always going to be a four year plan

We all had rosy projections based on if everyone came out of the gate playing like they've had 3 years under the belt. DP is doing what he can with what he's got. 8 scholarship players and 4 of those being freshmen is going to take a toll on the W-L this season. My expectations shift from wins and losses to player progression as the season goes on. Developing the young talent will be key for success next season

We only have 8 players because he can't retain a team! Even his own recruits don't want to stay!

Why you don't like the truth. Please explain to me what he has done for Mason that is so great

He's completely changed the climate and brought respectability back to our program. It might not be in postseason appearances yet, but I do believe he has a plan that will pay dividends down the road.

There have definitely been some bumps we didn't expect like defections and unused scholarships, and I expressed some of those frustrations earlier in this thread; but I have no doubt Dave is the right coach and person for this job. I might get impatient and need to vent from time to time — no coach is perfect and beyond criticism — but I trust this man and his process.

Man, that ignore button is awesome. Don't mind if people disagree with me but at least make some coherent arguments. I disagree with GSII but at least he has some rational thinking behind it.

DJ3 just sounds like a 10 year old throwing a tantrum. What a f**king retard, seriously. Please don't engage him in conversation. Now that everyone has called his idiocy out (even people who agree with him), he has dug in even more.

Once again ignore button is awesome. Back to enjoying the boards.

I know I got bashed on here as a hater because I posted some questions I had with Paulsen and his mismanagement of the roster, so be prepared Tom.

I like Paulsen and I think he's doing a good job - but there is no reason to only have 8 scholarship players. You have free money to spend, and we ain't spending it. No reason not to use all the tools given to you - don't make this team play with one hand tied behind their back!!! This would have been the perfect year to go after a grad transfer.

I, like you am also worried about next year. We will be better, no doubt, I just don't know if it will be NCAA tournament better... or even NIT better. I'm not seeing it... and this isn't just because of last night, this is after the whole resume thus far.

I'm in the Dr. Gunnie camp on this. I think GMU has good players - just not enough of them and not enough size. (captain obvious) There is a part of me that thinks that after successful season next year a lot of us will wonder what we got so worked up about back in '17-'18. At the same time, I thought for sure that Paulsen was going to bring in a decent big after losing Jenkins. I don't understand the aversion to transfers - seems like they'd be more of a known commodity than a freshman. Paulsen doesn't have to alter his entire philosophy, but a transfer here or there (as needed) would ne nice.

He brought in a transfer. Unfortunately these annoying NCAA eligibility rules are standing in the way of him playing this season.
