The way his mom is talking, I could see him being done at Mason moving forward.

I hope this isn't the case. If so, he will end his Mason career with 956 points (42nd all-time at Mason), and the record holder for single-game scoring by a Mason player at the EBA (39 points).

I am so numb from this program, beating another bad team and taking 2 OTs to do it doesn't excite me....

And I have it from unreliable authority...you may have seen the last of Greene...

I don’t disagree that I want mason to move on as well, but one thing I admire is when I see Paulsen teams fight like hell on the court to do everything possible to get a w like today. He’s not the best coach, we don’t have the best players, but when I see it all left on the court, I’m proud to root for that. For tonight I’m pleased, but long way to go before my mind changes. One game at a time.

I generally agree with that. It’s nice knowing his teams never give up.

it seems like every year Paulsen is beefing with at least one player. But maybe that’s how he gets the other guys to buy in.

Definitely seems like it. But I doubt its unique to the Mason program that this stuff happens. Guys get outplayed for minutes, they don't like something etc. It just becomes out in the open due to people talking or twitter etc.

Greene has a choice, either he can buckle down and help the team win, or he can try to go elsewhere. I hope he stays but if he doesn't want to be on the team for whatever reason, so be it.

Despite the win, it would seem that DP has lost the locker room if the parents are any indication. Time to go.

Some coaches are loyal to seniors to a fault (see vcu last season, when Rhoades stuck with his seniors even as they were being outplayed by younger guys and their season fell off a cliff).

Paulsen seems to be one of those coaches who values production over all else and if a younger guy is playing better, seniority means squat.

Not saying it’s right ... could be one of the reasons he seems to grate on guys the longer they are here, though.

Also the postgame video they posted didn’t look like he had lost the locker room, but it’s possible they told the players if they didn’t dance for the video they couldn’t get on the flight home.

Lol hope Javon had some good walking shoes because my dude looked less than thrilled to be in the patented Dave Dance Circle.

Look at the immediate post-game too. AJ runs over and puts him in a hug and he just pulls out of it and walks away from the team as they’re all celebrating.

Perhaps this is the reason why Dave has a ton of transfers, and why he has an issue bringing in recruits. When AJ and Javon are finished, I’d love to hear an exit interview.

That was a very good win on the road. UMass led by 8 with 1:20 to go in regulation, by 7 with 3:04 to go in OT, and by 6 with 1:44 to go in 2OT. Say what you want about DP, his team played hard and showed a lot of resiliency last night.

As for Greene, I agree with Matt K. It looks like at this point that DP is going to play with a traditional PG (either XJ or Hartwell). If so, Greene is the SG. In a more traditional lineup (PG, SG, SF, PF and C), Kolek is currently playing better than Greene as the SG.

Finally, McCall had a really bad take in his presser after the game. He said: "Too often we put the game in the official's hands and the official's made calls for George Mason and not for us." The Kolek call at the end of regulation was a tough call for UMass but the refs called that same "body" foul several times throughout the game.

It's not just seniors who are expendable in Paulsen's program. And, it's not just an issue of production with Paulsen, but also leadership, attitude, and work ethic. I'm guessing that it was the same way at Bucknell.

BTW, I think Javon's mother is really cool. But, this is D-1 basketball.

If Javon does leave the program, he’ll be the second senior to do so this year. Not a good look for a coach to lose guys who’ve made it that far, especially mid season. Makes me continue to question really how disciplined is Paulsens program? Did we give him too much credit up front for building a disciplined program just because it was a clean program?

I mean it can be both ways. Javon is 22 acting like a 5 year old. But DP still needs to be fired.
DP clearly escalates it and the escalation hurts the team. Just look at OT last night for the example. Who gives the team a better chance to win, Greene or Polite? And we've watched it for the past couple years in the way that DP publicly and repeatedly yells and screams at Javon during games. There is a different way to respond to a player in these situations that can be equally effective without escalating the conflict. They both need to manage their emotions better, but one is 22 and one is 56.
