Sticking with my pessimistic predictions

Peaked at their boards for the first time in a while. It is GMU circa 2013 over there. After a home loss to SBU many of their fans were happy that they "played hard for 40 minutes" and said the arena felt like the old days. In other words, grasping for straws at things to be happy about. I'm anxious to see which of their eclectic mix of a fanbase abandons ship first, the NASCAR lovers, the Johnny Weir lovers or the Wire extras.

It will take a special effort on the glass and taking care of the ball to pull this one off. Wish I was a little more optimistic.

I'm predicting a Wings game again (vcu has given up at least 70 pts in 8 out of their last 10 games).
As for Chick-Fil-A, harder to predict given that it depends which one is shooting, but there's some chance
given that as a team vcu is 12th in conference at 69% (and everybody knows we're best in the conference in defending FT-67%! -has anyone ever explained that statistic?).

Ya know when programs start turning it around, there are rarely such definitive moments. It usually just happens over time and then retroactively you look back and say "yea that was the defining moment when we turned it around".

But this scenario (as unlikely as it is) would be an immediate recognition by both programs and the A10 as a whole as to where our program is heading......... and that thought gives me goosebumps!

Its funny on the vcu boards, they are swearing they aren't rivals with us and we mean nothing to them. Yet there is already 5 pages of posts about this game and we still have a day and a half to go before tip off.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, we're on the way up. Mason is coming

vcu has always thought of themselves as some sort of Duke. It's always mind blowing to me. They are easily the most delusional fan base on the planet. But whatever it makes their tears that much sweater.

Reality is that they're a low tier university with a good arts program and a decent basketball team.

I really don't think we'll win tomorrow... but it would be a huge win for the program. Basketball teams are a giant pendulum, ours is swinging the right way, theirs is not.

Ya know when programs start turning it around, there are rarely such definitive moments. It usually just happens over time and then retroactively you look back and say "yea that was the defining moment when we turned it around".

I remember leaving the Patriot Center after we beat ODU in '99 thinking that was a defining moment of the Old Cuban Guy's turnaround. But your point is valid, most of the time its not one specific game.

If we end up the regular season having won the last 3 games, putting us in 4th, I'd consider that a major accomplishment given where we were at the beginning of the season. We avoid the PIG, place us favorably for winning a game or two in the A10 tourney.

To me, like 52 said, sweeping odu and beating them in CAA final in OCM'S 2ND YR was a defining moment. It was a statement to the league this Cuban can coach and to watch out. We need that again. Tomorrow can be the start.

Meh, there's a certain amount of jealousy there. Despite their great FF run Mason's is remembered far more. They're irritated because they know their run was paved by ours.

Their fall is inevitable. And boy will it get ugly. Much as I also hate UR I hate vcu worse--I'd love to see it revert back to the 80's and 90's when UR got all the city press.

So. vcu's biggest issue is that they are not mentally tough. if shots don't fall, then they let it affect the rest of their game. They stop playing defense...

Mason has shown mental toughness. if vcu's comes out cold and Mason stays Paulsen mentally tough then they have a shot to win down there...
