They gave up almost 100 points to a garbage offense tonight

They should be embarrassed

That 3 from Moore with 7 seconds left was classless. I hope we get these guys in PGH when we are at full strength and someone sends him to the floor. HARD.

This group has checked out until A10 tourney.

Hmmm....that was with the shot clock winding down and it was over a minute left in the game. Of course a shot was going to get put up.

Yeah that makes sense, I feel in between on what to take from the games. Hewitt was gone last year which was goal 1-100. Last year was a win based just on that fact and that we replaced him with a dang good coach.

Now enter this year, where honestly I didn't expect much, but I did think wed improve. Fast forward to being a lot more competitive than I really ever imagined at this point, and its hard to not want more right now even though 2 months ago nothing much was expected. We can't do anything about our bigs and Im really excited about our direction, but I get pumped thinking if we enter a good big or at least capable one in the situation we have……we are really onto something. Though it was something obvious from day one, its hard to not just focus on it each and every time it bites us. Its difficult to watch Boyd posses more down low skills than two 6'9 dudes…lol.

I am really confused as to why everyone had low expectations. I had high hopes even last season. I thought Hewitt left us with some talent. I figured once we had a coach who knew Xs & Os we would be fine.

I wasnt expecting a final 4 or anything, but I certainty thought a top 5 a10 team was possible this season. Yes we have a young team, but we have experienced guys.

My point is...there's no use slamming the kids....they are doing the best they can do. As much as they have to get better, the coaches have to work on them too.

And while message boards are open fodder for discussion and the the deficiency of our front court is an obvious fact...it's not changing soon.

I would rather see a discussion of...can we get 15, 15 and 10 out of Revalo, Dixon and Temara and make that work if we dont get another big. Or something like that.

It's like the Mason Football discussion for me....at some point you just have to let it go and go with what you do have.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it a young John Vaughn who nearly quit the team because he read scathing nonsense on this board that he wasn't playing with any heart? Or, something like that?

My point is, be critical if you feel the need to, but try to keep it as constructive and positive as possible. In other words, just watch what you say about the players.

Almost all of Hewitt's talent left us. After Shevon Thompson graduated, who is a Hewitt holdover? Jenkins and Moore, the only two upperclassman in our 8-man rotation. And you expected the team to be top 5 this season?

By the way, about Temara and Relvao, where do we really get into trouble on defense? It's not at the 5 position, but at the 4 when the opposing team can put a real stretch 4 on the floor and exploit our lack of size there. So, we get into situations where we have a 5'10 guy switching off on a 6'8 power forward, or we have a 6'3 guy trying man guard a 6'8 power forward in the post.

I was hoping that with a full year of offseason workouts Abram could have been that guy, but he doesn't seem to be working out, at least right now. So, I would be looking more to how much Wilson and Mar can give us at the 4 next season and less to Temara and Relvao, because if we can have a competent player at the 4 with some length, their job becomes a lot easier on both ends of the floor.

Yes I thought we could be good. The A10 was expected to have a bad year. I personally don't believe in a deep bench, I think you ride your best players. I think you only need two/three go to players off the bench. Anything after that is just gravy.

Moore- we knew he was good, just not this good.
Jenkins- everyone knew his potential. When he isn't in foul trouble hes pretty damn good.
Otis- We all saw brilliance last year. expected slightly elevated performance because he had more experience. Lately this seems to be true.
Grayer- we all saw the potential last year.
The 4- I was hoping AJ Wilson wouldn't red shirt. But even if he did, I expected someone else to step up.

As I type this, I am realizing I was hoping for the stars to align perfectly. Basically I just had confidence we were going to be competitive.

Honestly, I clearly remember reading a thread some years back about such an incident. I don't remember the player and finding the thread from the old CAAZone site is not possible. Perhaps, someone else here remembers it? Unless that thread was nothing but a**-talking—which wouldn't be all that unusual on this type of forum.

Almost every time when we beat a team their fans want their coach fired for it lol. Pretty entertaining to read BC we were there once.

On the flip side, Abram must be loving reading these boards! I see him transferring and becoming an All-ACC player at UNC very soon!

just hilarious you cape for DR who can't walk and chew gum but Abram can't pass or play defense and he seems to be your enemy.

I like all of our players.

Abram debate is a moot point. People can love him or hate him, see him as an unused asset or someone deserving of sitting on the bench. Barring a widespread illness or mass suspensions, it looks as if he won't be getting anymore meaningful minutes. No one knows if its talent related, attitude or effort. As much as we'd think we could use Abrams length and ability to shoot from 3, DP has other ideas.

Moot point or not, I do enjoy reading the player discussions and debates, that's why we have fan forums like this.

If we aren't going to talk about player performance there is almost no point in having the boards. Now there is a way to be mature about it as there is a difference between constructive criticism and bashing. An example of constructive criticism would be "Danny Dixon's footwork in the post hasn't been very impressive, definitely needs to work on that if he wants to contribute." as opposed to "Danny Dixon is complete garbage, can't wait for him to transfer so Dave Paulsen can bring in a transfer from Kentucky that doesn't suck so bad."

My point is there is a way to be mature about discussing the team and players. Try to remember we are talking about college kids here who are still trying to learn how to be productive responsible adults along with trying to become great basketball players for George Mason.

New weekly breakdown is up. There was a lot of fun stuff from the La Salle game:

Re: Relvao - I think it's a mistake to dwell on everything he does wrong. Freshman bigs will do all sorts of things wrong. Instead, focus on the flashes of potential they show to see what kind of player they could become. Relvao had a couple bonehead plays in the La Salle game, including the cringe-inducing loss of an easy rebound out of bounds, but he also had a couple nice plays that I highlighted.

Good work Petey, thanks for the contribution! I have to agree with Petey (By George may have even changed Petey's mind on Relvao) that we need to take more of a wait-and-see approach with DR instead of expecting immediate impact.

I spoke with him last year before he was officially redshirted and he was so clearly in pain and bummed that he had to sit out a year. In an interview we will be dropping next week, he admits that his knees are still a major problem and says that redshirting last year didn't really help his basketball progress as he basically took a year off. He said that the mental reps helped him and recognizes the areas he needs to get better.

I don't see another center on our roster or in our next class. The kid alters shots, is top on our team in boxing out, shows glimpses of athleticism (highlighted in "Petey's Bucket of Knowledge" with his block and the way he trails MM on the transition lay up) and he seems extremely smart going to Mason for mechanical engineering. At the highschool level, we never judge a big man by his first 2 years understanding that it takes them some time to contribute without constantly having the ball in their hands.

I'm a fan of DR and predict he will be starting alongside AJ Wilson next year giving us the standard frontcourt I've been begging for.

Team has exceeded expectations by a lot this season playing guys like Boyd, Kier, Newman, (and Javon Greene) and you think one or two of them is going to play less minutes in favor of Relvao and a redshirt freshmen? Hoping this is as wrong as your prediction that Danny Dixon would be a starter this season...
