Fans who confuse having reason with a lack of loyalty are the most annoying fans. It's as if you can't be a logical person if you are a fan of a team. 10+ years of bad results is more than a trend, it's a career. And people need to stop it with the not having his own guys crap. The best coaches adjust to the talent they have. Besides, "his" guys aren't lighting the world on fire...

As a Raider fan, I'll say this on that topic: I now have hope because Al Davis is taking a dirt nap. His son at least knows that he doesn't know anything about football. Unfortunately, it's going to take 3+ years to dig out of the abyss AD created....

We've been regressing since the second Paul Hewitt was hired as HC. Anyone who is just noticing it now either wasn't paying attention or was refusing to see what was right in front of their faces.

2010-11: 27-7, CAA regular-season title, 1 NCAA victory
--------------
2011-12: 24-9 (against a marshmallow-soft schedule with the CAA POY), no postseason
2012-13: 18-14 (pay-for-play postseason tournaments don't mean shit)
2013-14: 7-7, headed for a losing record

As I pointed out recently in another thread, the trend line looks a lot like Nestor's record once Harrington's and Barnes' players had cycled through the program. The longer the players are in Hewitt scatter-shot "system," the worse they play.

Giving Hewitt another year only guarantees another lost season. In a perfect world, he'd be fired tomorrow -- this season is toast anyhow -- so we could start laying the groundwork to hire a competent replacement and keep our promising young players and recruits.

But I'd settle for kicking his a** to the curb at the conclusion of what figures to be an embarrassingly bad A-10 schedule.

Like JMU and UNCW, we've proven we were one bad hire away from our program totally hitting the skids. But we're also one good hire away from heading back in the right direction.

Patriotfan - are you also the GMURaider account as a bizarro alter ego using Oakland as a metaphor? Haha it's been an interesting/sad/accurate comparison of Hewitt loyalists and Oakland fans.

I want us to win every game, obviously, but this one especially. I will actually consider it a good season, if we win this game, lose every other, and get rid of Hewitt.

lol....Unfortunately not, its a new member and I had never even thought of the two parallels until the guy started posting and found it way too ironic.

I love you all!

I guess we should stop eating our own on here. I think, unfortunately, we are all coming to the same conclusion (that Hewitt is the problem) in different time frames. Some (group A) came to it immediately and annoyed the rest of us for 2.5 years. Another group (group B) that includes me, have more recently come to that conclusion. We can now see clearly what group A has been annoying us with for the last 2.5 years is actually the case, and now we are joining with group A to annoy group C.

Group C is still holding out hope. They are annoyed that those of us in Group A and Group B can't see that maybe there is hope with the better recruits. But, I get the distinct impression that none of you in Group C really thinks we are going to be really good in in year 5, 6 or beyond. What I would urge those of you in Group C to do is to be honest with yourself on that front. If we aren't going to be good for that long, what are we really waiting for? I hope that group C comes around soon, because if we could put up a united front to the administration, we might be able to get something done that would be a positive move. I don't know exactly what that would look like, but anything would be an improvement.

We're not going to be better next year than we are this year. Our incoming freshmen, as good as they look, will not immediately outweigh the loss of Allen and Wright in year one, and our 2015 senior class is a mess. If we're going to give Hewitt a chance to turn this around, I think that means giving him 2015-16 as well, at which point he will have only his hand picked recruits. If we're not willing to do that, then there's no reason to give him 2014-15, either.

Tom wont respond to my FB friend requests.......lol...

Did you send me a request? I would never ignore a request from my former dart partner at Penny Lane. I'm still in therapy from us losing to a girl that night. :(

I got to see a game at Lambeau earlier this season, but there's not enough long underwear and bourbon that would make it fun to sit in -20 temps for today's game. I think the bad weather definitely favors SF, because you've got the better running game.
The color of the field at Lambeau is making me nauseous. Why don't they paint it, like the Skins?

As a founding member of Group A, I want to extend a welcome to all of Group B to this little place I call reality. ;)

In all honesty, I wish I'd been wrong about Hewitt. No bitterness toward the majority that are coming round to my point of view, but there is some schaudenfreude for the few individuals that used to jump on anyone that early on were quick to jump on anyone that suggested maybe the issue wasn't 100% Larranaga's recruits and maybe Paul Baul 2 had something to do w/it.

I think defending Hewitt originally was only natural. While there were arguments against him, there were reasonable counters. While those of you who could see it crystal clear from the start, we we had to give him a basic try initially. I liked Jollay's quote from a previous year where he said that the criticism was so far over the top, that we felt compelled to defend a guy we really did not want to defend.

After two and a half years, and two years with the same squad and no improvement, he has now built a track record. I have not seen anyone on here recently trying to make the case that he is the guy we want for the future. I only see people arguing to see if he does anything in year five. That by itself is pretty telling.

I am sure those in Group C still find us annoying and I can understand they still have the urge to argue in his favor. I know how they feel. I was still there until several weeks ago. It sucks to come to this reality, even it it is somewhat of a relief in a way.

The Fire Hewitt crowd in year 1, or even in the middle of the second season, was a bit much. I was on board with giving him 3 seasons as well - still am for now.

I'm talking about comments like "just not impressed with what I'm seeing" getting the "well you're not a real fan" treatment.
