It was good to see Mar mixing it up on defense and getting in players shirts even though he had an off shooting night. Was very impressed with his effort guarding players off the dribble and making sure they didn't have clean looks at the basket. Another decent rebounding effort as well with 6 rebounds.

Hopefully that translates to more made baskets in the future for him, but if he can keep up the intensity on defense and on the glass he'll earn his minutes on the floor.

P.S. he needs to find a way to get to the line more often, he's a good FT shooter).

P.P.S. I hope Jollay lost his shirt betting against his own alma mater tonight.

If Jollay did that he should be beaten with leather straps and rogered with a plunger handle.

I forgot Kier was from down that way and they didn't even offer him. Even better that he went off for 16 points, 4 assists, 6 steals, and 11 rebounds. That's called a complete game, folks.

I’m still confused about why Rowe went at Paulsen. We didn’t see or understand why the double tech was called and they didn’t go to monitors to check elbows. And the players didn’t seem to go at each other or know why it was called. Anyone see what happened?

Loved that it got the team and crowd fired up though. Also cool to hear that even Edwards got into it after the game. A whole program throw down. I just wish we had more context.

Does Rowe like the few too and there was none left?

Something brewing with Rowe over past 3 years as he referenced that time frame and how it wasnt appropriate to talk about it. In his post game he never mentioned DP when claiming no disrespect to GMU, our players, and Coach Simpkins. Clearly left DP out.

Something about DP high fiving Kier after the double tech that left their player with his fourth personal. Seemed to take it as a sign that DP wanted our guys to wind them up. Kind of a silly thing to get so worked up over so clearly there’s something else behind it. If memory serves me right he lost his f**king mind last year too.

High giving after having the other team get a Technical is no reason - alone - to get out of control. If it is something that does span from last year could it be that we have beaten JMU 22 out of the last 24 games?

I am interested to see if the change in defense scheme carries forward. Mason let Stuckey Mosley get his but forced him to carry the Dukes on his shoulders while keeping the rest of the team in check save for Lewis. Usually - we would focus on someone like Mosley and let the rest of the team catch fire.

Last night was the first game I missed. What defensive adjustments did we make?
Looking at the stat sheet it looks like we had less turnovers and if we had shot the ball well we would have blown them away.
Hopefully they are starting to get it together, 2 more games before A-10 play.

Definitely played tighter defense and were more aggressive on that end. Offense comes and goes and I think we definitely have offensive talent -- however, Defense is a constant element - if you play defense you will win by larger margins or win even when your offense is off.

There was definitely a different in intensity last night. I just wish we could play more zone.

Last night I thought we did - in fact Kier pushed in to prevent a dunk aggressively and we were in their shirts more.

Yes. We did. We gave up a lot more open looks from the outside, and JMU were 5-7 from three in the first half and 7-10 at some point. But we kept grinding them down and their shots stopped falling once they lost their legs. I think they finished 1-8 the rest of the game (but would have to check the stats to be sure).

Mwould still like to see us close out on shooters faster, but overall much better on defense.
