Fun fact as the season comes to a close: if no one transfers or otherwise leaves the program this off season besides (besides Kier and Boyd pending scholarship availability) this will be the first year since hiring Dave that we brought back everyone who was eligible. Even in the days of increased transfers that says a lot about the health of a program to have exactly 1 scholarship athlete play out his eligibility with our team.

I thought that all eligible scholarship players came back for the 2016-17 season.

At this point I don't think it matters what offensive or defensive schemes Dave tries to use to right the ship. You can tell he has lost the confidence of the players and without them buying in there won't be any improvements.

Average home attendance peaked during the 2006-07 season (6,834).

2006-07: 6,834
2007-08: 6,494
2008-09: 6,295
2009-10: 5,837
2010-11: 5,896
2011-12: 5,161
2012-13: 4,562
2013-14: 4,916
2014-15: 4,082
2015-16: 4,300
2016-17: 4,234
2017-18: 4,087
2018-19: 4,335
2019-20: 4,037

Inasmuch as Mason did not average at least 4,500 fans per game this season, Coach Paulsen will not earn an attendance bonus.

So you watched the Dayton and Duquesne games and honestly concluded the coach has lost the confidence of his players?

Strongly disagree. Our guys often don’t play well, but they are still playing hard. That wouldn’t be the case if they had quit on the coach.

I know the general consensus is that paulsen will be back. But, I’m not so sure. He only has one a10 winning season in 5 years.

I know paulsen is under contract for the next two years, but Mason made a commitment to basketball when they moved to the a10. They pumped money into new facilities. The administration must have some level of expectations.

I won’t be surprised either way. Just a sad stats of affairs.

Its definitely not the happiest of situations to say the least and I’m sure neither the woman’s or men’s programs are up to where Brad wants it.

That said, there isn’t a President in place quite yet, Dr Washington doesn’t start until July. Dave has a show me year to both Brad and Dr Washington so we’ll see what transpires the next 12-18 months. We can only hope that either Dave magically turns it around or they go in a different direction in what is best for the men’s basketball program.

We’re sure he’ll be back. If we’re wrong, we’ll have an event you can peg tomatoes at Bryan.

I think there would be less pegging Bryan with tomatoes and more celebrating with this board if that were to happen....

That really depends on who BE hires to replace him. Is he going to swing for the fences and be ambitious and/or take a big risk, or is he going to go safe and conservative again?

Why does Brod get to hire the new coach or even keep his job?

Short answer: because the end of the season is a week away and we haven't fired BE yet, and you've got to fire BE first if you're going to have someone other than BE find your next basketball coach after this season.

Now, if the new president comes in and fires BE after July, I'm sure Paulsen's bottom will be getting really hot sitting on that hot seat he'll have next season.
