The only real pressure on our players or coaches will be the pressure they put on themselves.

Am I expecting to make the NCAAs in 2018-19? Yep.

Will I be disappointed if we don't? Sure.

Will it change how I feel about DP's long-term future at Mason if we don't? Nope.

This rebuild is ahead of schedule. As long as we don't have a flurry of off-court issues or the on-court performance plummets, DP isn't going to be under pressure at Mason for a very long time.

I can agree with that.

That said I also think that everyone expects the program to make significant strides (even more significant and be close to the tourney), next year considering the talent that has come in and been developed by that point. Also being said expectations will take care of itself because we know what Paulsen can do without a full squad, and he should have more at his disposal by next year. It’s going to be time to win and I have no doubt that they will.

He isn’t going to be under any pressure to really win big however considering what he’s done unless the program really starts going backwards to your point though. I just don’t see him coasting either, so it’ll be a win win.

Whatever plan/timeline we had for the progress of this team, Goanar's performance so far this year has turbo charged that. He's one of those rare recruits that will be a starter for four years.

And if he is such a smart, talented, level headed player right now, can you imagine him as a senior? This all came as a surprise to me because no one was super excited about him in the preseason performances/scrimmages/practices. Even Paulsen said he really did not display much of a shot, but come game time, when it mattered, he suddenly blossomed.

Agreed,Definitely had the most P5 offers. I'm referring to how he performed in the preseason scrimmages/practices, there was not much buzz for such a highly rated recruit. And even if knew he would be great at Mason, we (at least I) did not envision what I am seeing so early on.

Nowhere great to post this but watching the vcu game and the announcers mentioned how it’s in every coaches contract that if they leave for a P5 school they owe vcu a home and home. That’s really smart. Would like to think Brad’s got something like that in DP’s contract.

I pointed that out to my wife last night how smart it was of vcu to do that. If it's not in there, needs to be in next extension.

vcu has been doing that for a while. I know that when Capel left for Oklahoma, OU played a game at vcu.

I always liked how vcu has worked that into the contracts and would like to see it implemented into Paulsen’s deal at some point. I think we have a little while before we have to worry about that though.

True, but there’s literally no harm in inserting that clause. I suppose there’s an argument to be made DP wouldn’t sign if he thought it might be a roadblock to another team trying to hire him. But 250K to not have to play a game is an excellent payout. Or we get a game that puts some butts in seats and brings revenue.

Yeah! I totally agree. Join the crusade with my brother DJ3. Size! We need a 5! Where are the JUCOs that Paulsen could have signed. I think we could have had 3 JUCO center's all at 7 feet come to Mason. Add to the fact you have a guy like Abraham who could have stuck around, we'd have SIZE and a REAL TEAM. Oh why oh why can't we just get SIZE man. Lets join up and email Paulsen and Brad tonight, you in?
