The most effective way to recruit HS kids is to have at least a 5-year deal because that suggests you'll be around for the duration of their college careers.

I see no reason why Mason wouldn't keep adding a year to the back of his contract as long as the program stays on its current trajectory. Once we start winning big, then you're talking about adding money to the deal as well.

I tend to agree with one thing I did hear--Mason's recent expenditures are not going to necessarily meet the desired return.

I'm not saying his better than Larranaga, but he's in the discussion.

He is definitely in the discussion - he took the dumpster fire left by the virus and turned it around quickly. We at least are a competent program.

I love Dave Paulsen -- Looooove him and thank the Lord he came to Mason.

He's also a lot less rigid in his philosophy than we were led to believe by some when he was hired. I'm sure he'd prefer to run what he usually runs, but he's adapting to his players (and the trends in the sport), and that bodes well now and for the future.

DP is like a mad scientist. He adapts so well to the real-time situation, especially at halftime. The admin giving him the time to build this thing brick by brick is going to pay huge dividends. Mar is a great piece when you see him at the 4 like last night when AJ stepped up. So freaking smart and confident. Kids don’t quit. There are great days in your future.

It’s amazing what Paulsen and co can do. Every game, there are glimpses of improvements, players pick each other up, and there is absolutely no quit. He doesn’t have that much of a team to work with but he’s constantly maximizing what he has and giving the team a chance to win.

It’s been the same story since day 1, and I’m really excited to see it come together once he has a full cupboard of a team at his disposal.

He also mentioned that Simpkins suggested a play last night in the presser and gave credit to his staff. Great stuff.

Dp can coach no questioned about that., I'm going to hold of comparing him to coach L for now. There will be a lot of pressure on him next year to make the tourney

The only real pressure on our players or coaches will be the pressure they put on themselves.

Am I expecting to make the NCAAs in 2018-19? Yep.

Will I be disappointed if we don't? Sure.

Will it change how I feel about DP's long-term future at Mason if we don't? Nope.

This rebuild is ahead of schedule. As long as we don't have a flurry of off-court issues or the on-court performance plummets, DP isn't going to be under pressure at Mason for a very long time.
