I for one love coach L and always will. Understand why some others have issues but I am a Coach L guy through and through.

The sponsors are just lined up waiting . . . We've just decided not to do it because we don't want the money.

Shoot, I bet we could get more from Alumni donating to name it after coach L. (Not now, but in a few years).

I don’t dislike Coach L. I think he is a great coach, he did an amazing job at Mason and I have no problem that he reached out to Miami when him and TOC got into their fight. He deserves every extra penny he can squeeze out of Miami or any other program, for that matter. He has every right to change his mind about retiring from Mason and change his viewpoint on the NCAA and mismatch majors versus P5s to match his current employer.

But, those are not the actions of someone who should be worshipped by our fan base and get honored with a court being named after them.

Mason should at least activate its Athletic Hall of Fame and induct Coach L and all the players who warrant this honor.

For me, naming the court after coach L would be as much about strategically keeping the final 4 history alive as honoring the man. We have to face the fact that recruits and students barely have any idea that we made the final 4. Soon, they'll have no idea at all. And the banner isn't all that eye-catching.

As the older generation on here keeps reminding me, we don't have a great tradition of basketball excellence. We basically got lucky once. But I say, fake it till you make it. Do everything we can to pretend like we have great tradition, and maybe one day we will.

We have 12 scholarship players on the roster with one open scholarship. I'm pretty sure he did this last year and the year before as well for a walk-on (or all of the walk-ons two seasons ago -- at least I think I remember a video of him giving away scholarships for Christmas to the walk-ons?)

I’m guessing this is possible since it’s officially too late to take a midseason transfer, so might as well reward a walk-on for a second semester scholarship.

i think maybe the point is, while this is a nice gesture, it’s a sign that we haven’t maximized our use of scholarships.

why are we giving walk one scholarships two years in a row? From a competitive perspective it’s not a great look and shows we haven’t done things like go after grad transfers or jucos that might be able to help us win.

but hey they’re available, so it’s good that they use it to help a kid out whose just there for the love of the game.
