Can our AD really not fire/hire a coach with an interim president?

I’m not 100 percent sure one way or another, but I suspect if Brad has the right business case, anything is possible. I heard rumblings that he had to beg Cabrera to get rid of Hewitt, but no clue how true that is/was.

The AD doesn’t hire or fire coaches. He makes a recommendation to the president.
So what happened to men’s soccer coach. He didn’t actually leave on his own. Plus who approved the hiring of the new guy since we are in limbo and President Anne apparently means nothing

Heard the same.

I read that Clemson will fire Brad Brownell and hire Shaka. I would gladly accept Brownell at Mason.

Other big name coaches might get canned this year that I would be thrilled for.

Ben Howland with Mississippi State. It’s his 5th year and hasn’t made it past the first round of the tournament.

Believe it or not but Maryland is getting restless with Turgeon.

Jarod Haas from Stanford was on the hot seat this season, but he’s having a good year. But he seems like a good fit for Mason. Young and comes from a highly regarded academic institution.

I already said I don’t know whether Holton can hire/fire. Based on the soccer situation it seems she can.

So whoever has the ear of the interim president needs to get it done. #Shaka2Mason. God that would drive vcu fans insane.

I know this isn’t going to happen either, but if Dave goes I wouldn’t mind giving Simpkins a shot. You never know, he might be our Shaka.

While this is certainly true for the men's basketball coach, I don't know if this is true for the other head coaches.

I really don't see Paulsen being fired after this season, although it would be less costly to do so than it was to terminate Hewitt.

So are the Pro Paulson trolls using injuries as an excuse this year and giving him another pass?

Doesn't matter what fans think Paulsen isn't getting fired after winning most A-10 games in program history and then finishing 9th place. At least talk about coaches who may be available in 2022

Nobody cares he won some games in the A10. He average is below 500. That is disgraceful.

I don’t hate that idea. Is it a far fetched idea to hire him as an interim head coach? Basically a one year try out. Kinda insulting though.

So ignorant.

Not saying I agree but that is the reality that decision makers at the university have to answer to. We've seen zero evidence in Mason's history that was would suggest they'd fire a coach with Paulsen's current record
No evidence that they would keep him. New administration. Everyone is just speculating.

But it’s silly to say he has the best record in the a10. He’s the only coach outside of Hewitt. And Hewitt coached in a very competitive A10.

From an evaluation standpoint, it’s really a shame that Kier got injured. It’s year 5 and the league is pretty darn good. But now DP has the kier excuse.

I frankly think Mason is stuck between a rock and a hard place. It’s a tough call. Arguments to be made for both sides. It’s just annoying to read comments written as facts. I guess my point is, no one knows what will happen.

I would assume if Brad can make a case to the BoV then they could do it without a permanent president. They have final say, hence why we have a soccer coach.

Assuming that we were to move in a new direction, is it better to suffer for a year or two and have no buy-out? To attract a coach of a higher-caliber, we're going to have to have some cash. Can't see Mason ponying up if we're still paying someone else, even if it is only for a year.

Ok I know you're slow but I'm not saying they view him as the best A-10 coach ever because he simply won more conference games than Hewitt. I just don't think they view 9-9, 9-9, and 11-7 as an unacceptable disaster for a head coach.
