I never said I don’t donate. I said I’m not in a financial position right now to donate as much as I would like to.

I guess now we’re having a “donation measuring” contest. Awesome.
Ok my bad. You are a good fan man. All this chatting will make the off season go by quicker lol. Keep it coming.

Repeatedly trashing everything the coach does and posting negative messages about our recruits before their first college practice is an interesting approach to help our program get better.
you're right.. YAYYYY we recruited the 8th best player on PVI to open up a pipeline that will never ever open (because of our program and how talented PVI's players are)... XJ should be good, who knows about the Canadian kid who reminds me of Durant but was recruited by D2 D3 schools only pretty much. I hope they are all great and we go undefeated and sign Paulsen to a lifetime contract... I just don't live in Lala land

Never heard of the guy but coach of the year honors and coached two future NBA players. Not exactly lights out but not terrible either.

I’m wondering what some people would have thought about the Larranaga hire when he first came on to coach Mason. DP had a much better resume coming in as a coach. But Larranaga completely changed the program.

Point is ...... relaaaxxxx .......

OMG, why do we even let homers like you post w/this DP worshiping BS!!

He's the worst coach ever. EEEEEVER!!!! He's like the unholy love child of Rich Kotite and Ted Marchibroda but in college basketball.

Why are you being such a homer and can't be reasonable in your expectations like SnoozerPick?

Seems like a slam dunk hire to me. We know he is a good fit with DP from their time working together before, has connections with an elite hs program (where our top recruiting target played), coached NBA players there, and has some high praise in that article.

Yeah, the record at Dartmouth wasn’t great. Is that how we evaluate assistant coaches? Have they ever been good in the Ivy League?

Not sure why people seemed surprised by this hire. We basically hired a like for a like. The new guy seems cut from the same mold as the two coaches who left: White, come from really good academic schools, and have previously coached with DP. I'm not surprised or disappointed. Now if the next hire is cut from the exact same mold I'll be disappointed. No offense to the young kid from Bucknell that already works at Mason ( his name escapes me) but I don't want him to get that 3rd assistant job now that we have this guy. I'd like a more established guy with many years of experience and perhaps ties to a recruiting ground such as NYC/Baltimore.

Can anyone really recruit in the Ivy League?

After reading some of his "what are people saying about Pete Hutchens" there were some nice things said there. He might be a diamond in the rough. I will give him 2 years to prove he can recruit with his "recruiting contacts and relationships that span the globe".

Schools at our level generally don’t get coaches that have many years of experience as the No. 3 assistant.

When i say 3rd assistant here I don't mean in the pecking order on the bench or in salary, I just mean the 3rd guy hired. I might make Hutchins the #3 guy if I can find a more seasoned coach. I'm pretty sure all 3 coaches make somewhat similar salaries.

I think there actually is a pecking order: 1st assistant is the highest paid, 2nd makes a little less and 3rd even less. There is probably $10,000 to $20,000 difference between each spot.

The benefit to having a young guy like Bryson Johnson as our No. 3 is you don’t have to pay him as much and you can allocate a larger share of the assistant coaches salary pool to the first two slots.

Hutch seems like a good dude. He could be a good balance for the next guy we get, a ruthless cheating assistant. DP is use to playing with less than 13 scholarships so if the NCAA dinged us and took a few away, wouldn't matter. Let's cheat already!!!! Everyone is doing it!!!!!

I'd steer clear of the Miller Brothers if I was a coach these days

Then again one could wonder why isn't Hutch already on staff at Indiana or Wash since the head coaches think so highly of him. Oh well, just bring us a legit big man for Petes sake! Pun intended.

Wait, the guy doesn't donate but says he wants the best for Mason Basketball? What in the hell....

I haven't. I've given to academics but not to the basketball program. I guess my priorities are F'd up.

Can I no longer be a fan?

Former Clemson Assistant Steve Smith is now available. Has experience recruiting the area, working with big men, and recruiting at the highest levels.

Guess we should go after him.
