There is only one 4 star player on Davidson's entire roster (and he's not even their best player) and they are one of the favorites next season...stop getting all star-struck by the recruitment services, man.

We also have 4 3 star players on our roster and maybe one of them is a starter next year.

His “narrative” is that recruiting rankings are mostly bullshit. And he’s right.

Its true. A better barometer is what other programs did you beat out for most of the recruits. Sometimes there is diamonds in the rough....but you wont find 5 starting diamonds.

Since I dont follow all the recruiting sites like most, this is how I judge recruiting. "stars" are subjective so I'll value what other coaches/schools see in a kid over a recruiting blogger.

That works to a point, but not all “offers” are created equal.

If your offer from State U is conditional upon 9 other players turning them down, is it really an offer?

Also kids lie their asses off about their offer sheets. I take it all with a huge grain of salt until I see them on the floor in college.

I think it's obvious Butler didnt advise him to go to Umass either. Kid wanted to play but was shortsighted. Do your due diligence and listen. He didnt. Now he is taken a year off to sit which he should of done last year....at Mason.

The question is, is there’s no news because there is nothing going on, or is there no news because no one pays attention to us?

Where is By George with the questions? Where is Ryan Kish? Have they reached out and asked about where we are in the process?

We already have a DMV recruiter and don’t need another. We need guys whose ties are to other areas.

I wouldn’t mind a second guy who has ties to the DMV considering how much talent is leaving. But if Bryson Johnson becomes the new number 3, we need a more experienced assistant who can coach the forwards and help with their development.

If Bryson doesn’t get the job, I say bring on Lamar.

Good thing is we have to help Dane and Aaron fill out their staff too. So DP has a ton of job "openings".

Send Bryson to Dane. Hire Lamar as #3. Find top notch #2. Send Ted Rawlings to Aaron. And hire another bad a** recruiter.

I don’t care where our new assistants went to college, I want the best guys for the job. If Lamar is it, hire him... but I would be shocked if there weren’t more qualified coaches out there available. I’m loyal to Mason grads, but not at the expense of our program.

Do local ties really matter that much in recruiting for Mason? It’s not like recruits in this area haven’t heard of nor considered Mason. Most of them would probably like to get away from home anyways. If they’re in this area and Mason caliber, I’m sure the coaches will have them on the radar regardless of their connections.

I wonder if regional ties would be more valuable. Extend our radar to Baltimore, Richmond, VA beach, etc.

It’s about relationships.

VA Beach would not be bad. Good talent down in that area. North Carolina as well. Chicago and Michigan are other areas that would be nice.

Paulsen seems to have NYC and that general area himself.

Go get Greg Paulus... Ties to the midwest, North Carolina, Maryland, as well as DC. He has name recognition, he's young, has a good amount of experience, he was Coach K's PG for 3 1/2 years, and spent several years under Thad Matta at Ohio State.
